Abstract:

An apparatus for protecting an accessory connector () on a communication device (). The communication device can include an opening () for providing access to the connector. The apparatus can be a cover () attached in a tethered relation to the communication device. A portion of the cover can be flexible so as to allow a user to selectively move the cover between a first position and a second position. In the first position, at the cover can substantially close the opening such that the connector is substantially protected from the infiltration of solid particles and the gross intrusion of liquids. In the second position, the cover can be held away from the connector such that substantially unimpeded access to the connector is permitted. The cover and communication device can have various associated features to ensure that the cover is retained in the first and second positions.

Abstract:

A mobile device is described herein in which the mobile device can have a base portion that can include a guide base and can also have a slider portion that can include a sliding plate. The slider portion can be slidably engaged with the base portion and can move relative to the base portion. The mobile device can also include a cover plate that can be slidably engaged with the guide base of the base portion and the sliding plate of the slider portion. In one arrangement, the cover plate can be configured to selectively cover a slot of the sliding plate. As an example, when the slider portion moves from a closed position to an open position, the cover plate can move in substantially the same direction as the slider portion due to a friction coefficient between the cover plate and the sliding plate being greater than a friction coefficient between the cover plate and the guide base.

A portable electronic device includes a lower housing slidably coupled to an upper housing, the lower and upper housings being movable between a closed position and an open position, and a holster sized and shaped for holding the device in a holster position. The device also includes a first position sensor to detect proximity of at least one positioning object and output a first sensor output signal indicative of the proximity of the at least one positioning object to the first position sensor, a second position sensor to detect proximity of the at least one positioning object and output a second sensor output signal indicative of the proximity of the at least one positioning object to the second position sensor. Abstract:

A latch mechanism includes a latch member () that is assembled into a housing () of the device in a direction along a Z axis (). The latch member has retaining legs () that extend though openings () in the housing when the latch member is placed in a latch seat () of the housing. The openings form guides () along which the latch member will move when used. The retaining legs have retaining groves () formed in them. A retaining clip (), which has arms formed into undercut features () correspond to the retaining groves of the latch member so that the retaining clip can be slid onto the latch member from an opposite side of the housing which captures the guide between the retaining clip and latch member. The retaining clip is held in place by abutting a component of the device, such as a speaker assembly ().
