  • Dynamic Sectorization In A Cdma Cellular System Employing Centralized Base-Station Architecture

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6353600, Mar 5, 2002
  • Filed:
    Apr 29, 2000
  • Appl. No.:
    09/562598
  • Inventors:
Adam L. Schwartz - Campbell CA
  • Assignee:
LGC Wireless, Inc. - San Jose CA
  • International Classification:
    H04Q 700
  • US Classification:
    370328, 370335, 370535, 359124, 455450
  • Abstract:
This invention provides a cellular network architecture in which traffic channel resources are centralized and dynamically allocated to remote cells according to the demand. The present invention provides a method for maximizing capacity resources by dynamically sectorizing cells in a CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) cellular network. The present invention further provides a CDMA cellular communications network in which centralized traffic channel resources are distributed to remote cells by use of WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) on optical fibers and remote cells are dynamically sectorized according to the traffic demand and the grade-of-service requirement. The primary advantage of the present invention is that it enables a cellular network to dynamically manage and optimally utilize its capacity resources without having to change its hardware design, in contrast to the static and passive nature of the prior art cellular networks. The present invention provides a cost-effective build-out strategy for cellular network operators.
  • Adaptive Capacity Management In A Centralized Basestation Architecture

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6594496, Jul 15, 2003
  • Filed:
    Sep 25, 2001
  • Appl. No.:
    09/965584
  • Inventors:
Adam L. Schwartz - Campbell CA
  • Assignee:
LGC Wireless Inc. - San Jose CA
  • International Classification:
    H04Q 720
  • US Classification:
    455509, 455452, 455453, 455424, 455 671, 370329, 370437
  • Abstract:
A method for reducing the required number of channels needed to serve distributed communication traffic from a centralized capacity resource. The crucial aspect of the system under consideration is that the capacity needs vary as a function of time. Specially, a cellular communication system is described in which the basestations are centrally located and RF channels are diverted, by means of an RF switch, to remotely located cells. The number of traffic channels allocated to each cell is a time dependent offered traffic in the cells and the total number of available channels.
  • Random Offset Alarm Clock

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6753760, Jun 22, 2004
  • Filed:
    Nov 12, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/293894
  • Inventors:
    Adam L. Schwartz - Campbell CA 95008
  • International Classification:
    G08B 100
  • US Classification:
    3403093, 34030916, 3405731
  • Abstract:
Waking/alerting people with a random offset time added to a pre-programmed wake-up/alert time, the improved method and apparatus disclosed in the present invention maximizes time confusion and uncertainty to provide an extra urgency to get up and/or get ready. In an embodiment, an alarm clock chooses a random time offset of D minutes without the users knowledge. The alarm sounds D minutes before the preset wake-up time while displaying the current time plus D minutes. Thus, even though a user realizes that the alarm has sounded earlier than the preset time, he does not know exactly how many minutes earlier. Alternatively, the alarm could sound D minutes after the preset wake-up time. Again, the user does not know how much offset has been inserted by the clock. This uncertainty forces the user to assume the worst-case and get up quickly.
  • Method And System For Distributing Multiband Wireless Communications Signals

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6801767, Oct 5, 2004
  • Filed:
    Jan 26, 2001
  • Appl. No.:
    09/771320
  • Inventors:
Adam L. Schwartz - Campbell CA
    David Hart - Sunnyvale CA
John Eisenberg - Los Altos CA
Peter Forth - San Jose CA
  • Assignee:
LGC Wireless, Inc. - San Jose CA
  • International Classification:
    H04Q 720
  • US Classification:
    4554262, 398115, 455131
  • Abstract:
This invention provides a method and system for distributing multiband wireless communications signals. Downlink RF signals in a plurality of downlink frequency bands are received and then combined into a combined downlink RF signal at the main unit. The combined downlink RF signal is subsequently split into multiple downlink RF-parts, which are converted to multiple downlink optical signals and optically transmitted to the remote units. At each remote unit, a delivered downlink optical signal is first converted back to a downlink RF-part which is subsequently separated into a plurality of downlink RF-groups by frequency band. Each downlink RF-group is individually conditioned (e. g. , filtered and amplified). The individual-conditioned downlink RF-groups are then combined and transmitted to a dedicated downlink antenna.

Baljit Singh - San Jose CA, US
Peter Sydor - Los Angeles CA, US
  • International Classification:
    H04B001/04
    H04B010/00
  • US Classification:
    398/115000, 398/116000
  • Abstract:
In a wireless communication network, a method for transporting signals between a base station hotel and a remote cell site allows multiple uplink and downlink signals to be communicated using a single optical fiber. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, an RF transport technique uses frequency translation to shift the common carrier frequencies of diversity and sector signals to distinct intermediate frequencies that are then combined, converted to an optical signal and transmitted over a single fiber. The RF transport technique also uses wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) to communicate both uplink and downlink signals over the same fiber. Reference clock signals are distributed to ensure accurate frequency translation at both ends of the link. Reference power signals are also transmitted in both uplink and downlink to help perform signal power equalization.

Transmit time durations are set based upon the information to be transmitted. A transmit signal power level is determined based on the transmit time durations, and a predetermined average transmit signal power threshold per predetermined period of time.
  • Bathtub Insert For Children

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20110023226, Feb 3, 2011
  • Filed:
    Jul 30, 2010
  • Appl. No.:
    12/847508
  • Inventors:
Adam Schwartz - Chicago IL, US
  • International Classification:
    A47K 3/024
    A01K 13/00
  • US Classification:
    45721, 119673
  • Abstract:
The present invention provides a child bath that can be used either as a stand alone bath or as a conversion unit for conventional bathtubs. The child bath includes a vertical front panel and a horizontal top panel with a wash basin that holds a smaller volume of water than a convention bathtub. A support frame provides structural support to the horizontal and front panels. In one embodiment of the invention, the support frame fits within a conventional bathtub and holds the horizontal panel across the top of the bathtub, while holding the front panel in front of at least a portion of the side of the bathtub. In another embodiment of the invention the support frame holds the horizontal panel higher than the height of a conventional bathtub, thereby allowing an adult to stand next to the tub while bathing a child.
