Abstract:

Interference issues between wireless network devices are mitigated. An evolved node B (eNodeB) may experience higher cell load or higher interference when serving user equipment (UEs) that are operating in an cell range extension (CRE) area in which the UEs are strongly affected by aggressor eNodeBs. An eNodeB experiencing higher cell load or serving user equipments (UEs) under higher interference generally requests an interfering/aggressor eNodeB to repartition some of its resources. Repartitioning of resources, however, may have a negative impact on the eNodeB serving CRE area UEs. In one aspect, a new measurement of utilization accounts for CRE status and differentiates between protected and unprotected resources, such as subframes.

Abstract:

A method of wireless communication determines a UE interference condition during handover. A target cell receives information that indicates an interference condition of a user equipment (UE). Prior to completing handover, the target cell determines an expected UE interference condition that will arise after completing the handover of the UE at a target base station. The information can be determined based on a message from the UE. The UE message may indicate which cell is the strongest, indicate the interference condition at both the source and target cells, or only provide a measurement of the strongest cell. Based on the UE measurements, the target eNodeB may schedule the UE on resources based on the expected interference condition at the UE that may arise after the handover.

Abstract:

Method and apparatus for facilitating inter-cell connections, such as during a forward handover or radio link failure (RLF), are disclosed. A user terminal such as a UE may store identity information associated with a source cell, and use this information in accessing target or other cells subsequent to radio link failure so as to facilitate access to context information of the user terminal. A base station may be configured to improve handover performance by associating context information with a newly assigned terminal identity. Handover performance may be enhanced by facilitating connection processing in the event of inability to retrieve user terminal context from a source cell.

A connection manager () of a communication device (). The connection manager registers with a device driver () associated with a network interface (), which monitors the communication device for network access data from a third party connection manager (). After detecting network access data, the device driver notifies the connection manager. Depending on one or more policies or user input received from a user interface (), the connection manager may unregister with the device driver, disable the third party connection manager, or notify the user via the user interface that manual intervention may be required. Techniques for performing forward handover in a wireless communication system are disclosed. In one aspect, a user equipment (UE) transmits a connection request to a target eNodeB. The connection request may be transmitted when the UE detects a connection failure in a communication with a source eNodeB. The UE receives a connection response from the target eNodeB in response to the target eNodeB requesting handover preparation information from the source eNodeB. In another aspect, a target eNodeB may receive a connection request from a user equipment (UE) and transmit a radio link failure (RLF) recovery request message to a source eNodeB to prompt the source eNodeB to initiate handover of the UE from the source eNodeB.
