Abstract:A method for steering the gain of a multiple antenna Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver toward a plurality of a GPS satellites simultaneously is provided. The GPS signals of a known wavelength are processed digitally for a particular instant in time. A range difference or propagation delay between each antenna for GPS signals received from each satellite is first resolved. The range difference consists of a fractional wavelength difference and an integer wavelength difference. The fractional wavelength difference is determined by each antenna's tracking loop. The integer wavelength difference is based upon the known wavelength and separation between each antenna with respect to each satellite position. The range difference is then used to digitally delay the GPS signals at each antenna with respect to a reference antenna. The signal at the reference antenna is then summed with the digitally delayed signals to generate a composite antenna gain.

Abstract:An Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) method and system are provided to dct i) friendly ground-based vehicles, ii) each of the vehicle's unique identity, and iii) each of the vehicle's approximate position. A video image of an area of interest on the ground is generated from an aircraft. The video image is defined by a matrix of pixels. A range from the aircraft to a reference position within the area of interest is provided. The reference position is defined by known latitude, longitude and height within the area of interest and is further defined in the matrix of pixels by matrix coordinates. A coded signal is transmitted from a vehicle on the ground to uniquely identify the vehicle and identify the vehicle as friendly. The coded signal is also detectable as part of the video image when the coded signal is transmitted from the area of interest. The vehicle position within the area of interest is thus defined in the matrix of pixels by matrix coordinates.

Abstract:A method of simultaneously measuring orthometric and geometric heights is ovided. Simultaneous Global Positioning System (GPS) and level surveying is proposed to more efficiently obtain certain geodetic measurements. Abstract:An improved method for continuously determining the orientation of a moving ser platform at a selected time fix. A Global Positioning System (GPS) is used to carry out the method and is made up of a plurality of twenty-four (24) earth-orbiting satellites wherein each satellite continuously transmits a pair of distinctively encoded RF signals. The GPS system is also provided with a computerized GPS receiver apparatus for use on a moving platform. The receiver apparatus is generally comprised of a rotatable antenna, a single channel multi-track geodetic receiver, a receiver microprocessor, and an orientation computer with a display. The receiver processor selects an optimum group of four satellites to be tracked. The orientation computer during antenna rotation selects a series of four equidistant points about the antenna periphery for receiving signals from each tracked satellite. The signals are transformed by the computer so as to provide a graphic data display output in near real time of the biased range (Doppler phase measurement) of each optimum-tracked satellite in relation to the moving platform.

Abstract:A one hand operable wall supported clip is provided. Flexible objects, such as a pair of gloves or a piece of paper, can be easily inserted between a rigid support and a bendable flat spring with only one hand. A portion of the rigid support is cut away to enable pressure to be continually applied to the flat spring while the object is inserted, or slid, between the spring and the support. By releasing pressure, the flat spring presses the object against the rigid support to frictionally hold it in place. The object is also easily removed with one hand.

Abstract:An improved method that directly and continuously determines the magnitude f the earth's gravity in relation to a user platform at one or more selected points on or above the earth's surface. An improved Global Positioning System (GPS) is used to carry out the method and is made up of a plurality of twenty-four (24) continuously orbiting GPS satellites that are arranged into three groups of eight satellites with each group or constellation being disposed in its respective plane of a series of three longitudinal planes. Each plane is arranged in predetermined angular and spatial relation to the earth's equatorial plane and the other planes of the series. Any GPS satellite continuously transmits a pair of encoded RF signals at predetermined L-band frequencies. By virtue of this global arrangement of the 24 satellites, the antenna field of view of a user platform is capable of receiving at any time the encoded signals of at least six satellites. A geodetic receiver on the platform together with a receiver microprocessor, a navigation microprocessor, and a microcomputer progressively and continuously process signals received from the satellites for the ultimate purpose of comparing GPS dtermined vertical acceleration (that is normal to the earth's modeled ellipsoid) with its platform-measured gravimeter acceleration (that is normal to the earth's geoid) so as to determine, with greater accuracy, the gravity at one or more selected points.
