Abstract:

A backwash strainer is equipped with a mechanism for enhancing performance of a backwash operation by imparting a cyclonic flow to liquid to be filtered. The backwash strainer includes a generally cylindrical filter element that defines an interior chamber having an inlet through which liquid to be filtered can flow. A backwash arm is rotatably mounted within the interior chamber of the filter element. An impeller ring is positioned proximal the inlet for imparting cyclonic flow to a liquid flowing therethrough.

Abstract:

A drain protection device and pump controller for pools, spas, fountains and other fluid containment and circulation systems has a vacuum sensor for sensing a level of vacuum present in the suction conduit leading to the pump(s). The vacuum level is monitored by a computer that controls a vent valve that can vent to atmosphere to reduce the vacuum exerted at a drain. In applications with a flooded pump, e. g. , above-ground pools, the vent valve may control the discharge of an accumulator that injects fluid pressurized by the return line into the suction conduit to reduce the vacuum therein. The computer also controls the pump(s) present in the circulation system, viz. , turns them off to relieve vacuum when a drain is occluded and also runs them at the selected speed based upon a schedule. The vacuum criteria for vacuum reduction may include progressively sensitive values, some of which may be empirically based. Abstract:

The present disclosure relates to a do-it-yourself kit for the installation of a pool or spa device, such as a chlorinator. A first nut associated with a first port, compression ring, collar, and face sealing gasket may be placed over a first pipe segment, and a second nut associated with a second port, compression ring, collar, and face sealing gasket may be placed over a second pipe segment. The chlorinator body can be placed between the two pipe segments such that first and second ports of the device are substantially coaxial with the first and second pipe segments, respectively. The first and second nut can be threadably secured to the first and second port, respectively, of the chlorinator. Also provided is a cutting template cutting template that may be placed over a pipe of a pool or spa plumbing system, and a saw for cutting the pipe.
