Abstract:
At least one layer of cascading material overlying an EL lamp converts the light emitted by the EL lamp into infrared light. The EL lamp is supported within in a container transparent to at least infrared light, along with at least one battery and an inverter to provide power for the lamp in portable applications. The lamp is rolled to form a cylinder and fits within the inside diameter of the container. The lamp can be turned on or off by means of a switch interrupting current from a battery or to the lamp.
Process For Treating Previously Coated Phosphor Particles
Particles of electroluminescent phosphor having a moisture proof coating are re-coated by treating the phosphor in a fluidized bed with a mixture of water vapor and an organotrichlorosilane compound for approximately thirty minutes. The resultant siloxane coating further improves the moisture resistance of the phosphor.

An test cell is adapted for both making and testing samples. The cell includes a bottom plate and a top plate having concentric apertures defining a central test cavity. A post attached to the bottom plate closes off the bottom of the test cavity. A slide closes off the top of the test cavity. The top of the post is spaced slightly from the underside of the slide to define a test cavity of substantially uniform thickness. The test cavity is filled with phosphor suspended in uncured resin, closed, and the resin is cured. Once cured, the sample is stable, although delicate, and can be re-measured several times with reproducible results. The measurement takes place in the cell, using a thin film of oil for wetting surfaces.

Abstract:
A method of producing high quality GaN powder by combining high purity gallium and high purity ammonia in a tube reactor under controlled conditions. A reaction between the ammonia and gallium under the controlled conditions produces a porous gallium melt and to a full reaction, yielding high purity crystalline GaN powders with a stoichiometric nitrogen concentration and a hexagonal wurtzite structure.

Abstract:
A display includes a light switch overlying a backlight and having at least two light shutters which do not, by themselves, convey information by the shape thereof. The lit area of the backlight is equal to or greater than the sum of the areas of the shutters within the area. The display can also include a graphics layer overlying the light switch. The information content of the display is changed by changing the graphics layer.

Abstract:
A personal electronic device includes a programmable display and a programmable keypad, wherein at least one of the programmable display and the programmable keypad includes a capacitive touch sensor and an EL panel in a unitary structure. A conductive layer shields the capacitive touch sensor from the EL panel and can be a separate layer or be incorporated into either the capacitive sensor or the EL panel. The conductive layer includes antimony tin oxide (ATO), other conductive oxide, or a conductive polymer, such as Orgaconâ„¢ 3010.

Abstract:
In an array of LEDs coupled between a transparent substrate and an electrode, a light emitting surface of each LED is in electrical contact with a region of acicular ITO. By contacting the light emitting surface of the die, the acicular ITO also provides light scattering. The contact regions are interconnected to form the array. The acicular ITO acts as a ballast resistance for each die and the resistance can be trimmed for more uniform current among the LEDs. Because each LED is individually ballasted, the LEDs in an array can be driven in any pattern or all simultaneously at a consistent brightness.

Abstract:
A simple, inexpensive method of producing in bulk a doped metal nitride powder that exhibits a high luminescent efficiency, by first forming a metal-dopant alloy and then reacting the alloy with high purity ammonia under controlled conditions in a reactor. The resulting doped metal nitride powders will exhibit a luminescent efficiency that greatly exceeds that seen in pure undoped GaN powders, doped GaN thin films, and ZnS powders.

Filling the seats?: SEC schools sometimes lose battle with TV
At Georgia, everyone who contributed $250 to the Hartman Fund got season tickets for this season, associate athletic director Alan Thomas said. He said that number -- the threshold based on the lowest amount paid -- was about $2,000 last year, and that was a fifth of the 2008 figure.
