Abstract:
A valve, actuator and control system that allows minimizing the size of the actuator and operation of the control system in a manual mode that automatically prevents accidental operation by pipeline pressure is disclosed. The actuator uses gas pressure from the pipeline to power the actuator. In the event gas pressure is unavailable, a pair of manual hand pumps are incorporated to allow operation of the actuator and valve.

Abstract:
A hydraulic control system for a valve actuator comprising a first control valve that regulates fluid communication from a fluid pressure source to a first fluid supply tank that is fluidly connected to the valve actuator. A second control valve regulates fluid communication from the fluid pressure source to a second fluid supply tank that is fluidly connected to the valve actuator. A flow control member regulates fluid communication between the first and second fluid supply tanks and an exhaust valve that regulates fluid communication between the first and second fluid supply tanks and an outlet.

Abstract:
A valve actuator comprising a lower housing comprising a mounting spool that is operable to couple to a valve body. A rotating sleeve is disposed within the lower housing and coupled to a stem connector. A fixed sleeve in disposed within the lower housing and includes a first slot disposed therethrough. A second slot is disposed in the rotating sleeve, wherein at least one of the slots is a helical slot. An axle engages both the first slot and the second slot. A shaft is coupled to the axle and extends through a connector flange that is coupled to an upper end of the lower housing. A piston is coupled to the shaft and movably disposed within an upper housing that is coupled to the connector flange. Axial movement of the piston within the upper housing will result in rotational movement of the rotating sleeve.
A well fishing method and system is described. In at least one example of the invention, a method of retrieval of material (e. g. , a tubing string) having broken control or monitoring lines from a cased well is provided. The method comprises: isolating, from the well casing, broken lines above the material to be retrieved, thereby creating a substantially axial work passage; grasping the material to be removed through the substantially axial work passage; and pulling the material to be retrieved and the restrained lines from the well. Example shrouds, probes and other members are also described.

Abstract:
A side-entry sub for use in conjunction with wireline cable. The sub has a cable entry port provided with a self-closing valve for sealing the port upon withdrawal of the cable. In one embodiment, the self-closing valve is characterized by a housing member supporting a closure disc which is integrally molded with a resiliently deflectable support member having an elastic memory which biases the valve in the closed position. In an alternate embodiment, the self-closing valve comprises a ball valve, biased in the closed position by magnetic or spring means, and having a passageway through which the cable may pass. When the cable is inserted through the passageway, the ball valve is held in the valve open position. When the cable is removed from the passageway, the ball valve automatically closes.

Abstract:
A valve comprising: a housing having an opening therethrough around which is provided a seat; a closure assembly for blocking flow through the opening and for sealing engagement with the seat; and an actuator assembly connected to the closure assembly for moving the closure assembly between a first position, out of the flow path of the opening, to a second position, in the flow path, and for expanding the closure assembly for sealing engagement with the seat.
Connector For Providing Electrical Continuity Across A Threaded Connection

Exxon Production Research Co. - Houston TX
International Classification:

US Classification:

Abstract:
A connector 10 is disclosed which is suited for use in effecting an electrical connection between separate conductor bundles 12, 16 in adjacent sections of a threadably sectioned conduit. The connector 10 is especially well suited for use in providing electrical continuity across a tool joint in a drill string. The connector 10 has first and second portions 20, 22 each adapted for placement in a corresponding connection portion of two connectable lengths of conduit. The first and second portions 20, 22 form a pin and box connection. Corresponding contacts 46, 80 on the first and second portions 20, 22 assume a conductive relationship in response to connection of the conduit. The contacts 46, 80 of each connector portion 20, 22 are radially symmetric about the axis of the conduit and are axially displaced one from the other. The contacts 46, 80 within the assembled connector 10 are isolated from the conduit environment. Apparatus is provided for maintaining a dielectric fluid in the region surrounding the contacts 46, 80 to ensure electrical insulation of the connector 10.
