Abstract:
A system and method for controlling amplification of a signal received by a ZIF radio having a power level within a full power range relative to a minimum noise floor. The ZIF radio includes a ZIF receiver front end, an overload detector, an ADC, a saturation detector, a DC and power estimator, and control logic. The control logic utilized full visibility of the ADC to limit gain of the baseband amplifier to a maximum gain setting sufficient to view the minimum noise floor and to view a received signal having a power level within any of several segments of the power spectrum. The segmentation of the power spectrum is based on an overload condition of the ZIF receiver front end and a saturation condition of the ADC. The control logic further employs limited gain stepping of the baseband amplifier to avoid exceeding a DC budget of the ADC.

Abstract:
A wireless receiver including a receive chain, a synchronization processor, a memory, a combiner and a soft decision processor. The synchronization processor determines a frequency response of the wireless channel using synchronization data transmitted in the wireless channel. The memory stores a compensation vector indicative of a frequency response of receive chain filtering. The combiner combines the compensation vector with the wireless channel frequency response to provide a compensated frequency response. The soft decision processor uses the compensated frequency response to evaluate data decisions. The compensation vector is based on measurement or estimation of the frequency response of the receive chain. The combiner may be based on multiplication or addition. The wireless receiver may include an FEQ.

Abstract:
A power-based hardware antenna diversity method for a wireless transceiver with multiple antennas is disclosed. The method is characterized in the steps of setting the transceiver gain at a maximum level to establish a first story of dynamic power range above a noise floor level, using a high-resolution ADC at a large back-off level relative to the noise floor to detect weak signals within the first story of the dynamic power range, switching antennas and measuring power level for each antenna during signal onset, and selecting an antenna having a largest power level.

A 10 MHz channelized orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transmitter is provided that communicates using a modified OFDM packet structure with a half-rate oscillator having standard accuracy. The transmitter has an inverse fast fourier transform (IFFT) data processor that appends an outer pair of data subcarriers on either end of an OFDM subcarrier profile. An IFFT long sync processor appends an outer pair of binary phase shift key (BPSK) subcarriers on either end of an OFDM long sync subcarrier profile. By copying or appending the information of the data subcarriers closest to zero Hz. to more robust locations, 10 MHz channelized OFDM can be achieved with half-rate clocks and 20 PPM oscillators.

Abstract:
A technique for communicating multimedia data between nodes over coaxial cable, wherein the nodes are connected via a coaxial cable network, is disclosed. In an embodiment, the technique involves establishing a primary channel for communicating between first and second nodes of the coaxial cable network, establishing a secondary channel for communicating between the first and second nodes of the coaxial cable network, wherein the primary and secondary channels are in different frequency bands and wherein the primary channel is used for communicating media access control frames, and communicating a time series of data frames between the first and second nodes using both the primary channel and the secondary channel.

Abstract:
Embodiments may be disclosed herein that provide systems, devices, and methods of operating a Multimedia over Coax (MoCA) network. One such embodiment is a method comprising: designating a selected MoCA device as a network controller; and logically partitioning, into virtual MoCA networks, a predetermined bandwidth reserved for the MoCA network by sending, from the network controller one or more beacons containing virtual network information.

Abstract:
A method can include calculating an indication of signal quality for a communications channel based on a message from a node over a communications channel of a network. The calculated indication of signal quality can be adjusted based on a prior indication of signal quality to provide an adjusted indication of signal quality. Bitloading for the communications channel can be determined based on the adjusted indication of signal quality.
