Abstract:

An electronic valve actuation system and control method is described. The valve timing is changed between early and late intake valve closing depending on engine operating conditions. Further, valve timing is adjusted to control engine airflow or engine torque. Finally, air-fuel ratio is adjusted based on feedback from an exhaust gas oxygen sensor as well as an estimate of air, fuel, and residual exhausted from cylinders operating with late valve closing (after bottom dead center) timing.

A control system for a vehicle transmission includes a controller configured to output a first torque estimate defined in terms of one nonlinear function of a transmission parameter for a particular value of the transmission parameter. A system and method for controlling a vehicle powertrain includes a controller that is operative to automatically control at least one powertrain function other than engine torque based on a measured torque and a predetermined torque range. The predetermined torque range is based on a first engine torque estimate. Abstract:

A system and method for controlling vehicle roll, such as during a cornering maneuver. The roll control system and method include a sensor for sensing roll of the vehicle, a roll control signal generator for generating a roll control signal in response to the sensed vehicle roll, a pressure differential valve for generating a high pressure fluid, and an actuator for compensating for the sensed vehicle body roll. The roll control system and method also include a fluid control device for controlling the actuator in response to the roll control signal. The control device ports both the actuator inlet and outlet to a fluid reservoir when the vehicle is driven along a straight line path, and ports one of the actuator inlet and outlet to the fluid reservoir and the other of the actuator inlet and outlet to the high pressure fluid when the vehicle is driven along a curved path.

In one example, an engine's position is adjusted during engine stopping so that the engine may be less likely to stop at a crankshaft angle where rotating a fuel pump may increase engine cranking torque due to work performed by the fuel pump.

In one example, an engine may be automatically stopped and started in response to thresholds that may be adjusted as a distance traveled by the vehicle increases.
