Abstract:
The minimum transmit battery voltage (V ) of a radio operating in a TDMA mode of operation or the stand-by battery voltage (V ) of the radio operating in a GSM mode of operation can be determined as a function of the combination of an in-slot transmit battery voltage (V ), an out-of-slot transmit battery voltage (V ), a stand-by compensation factor (sb), and a compensation factor (K). The stand-by compensation factor (sb) is related to a difference between the out-of-slot transmit battery voltage (V ) and a stand-by battery voltage (V ). The compensation factor (K) has a first value for the TDMA mode of operation and a second value for the GSM mode of operation. Each value of compensation factor (K) is related to the manner in which the radio utilizes battery power during transmission in the TDMA or GSM modes of operation.

Abstract:
Wireless communications devices, such as cellular telephones (), include an integrated camera () and process image data captured by that camera () to determine desired device illumination levels. A controller () within the wireless communications device () causes an image to be captured by the integrated camera (). The captured image data is processed to determine approximate ambient light levels. A level of device illumination, such as provided by a display backlight () and a keypad backlight () is controlled based upon the approximate ambient light levels.

Abstract:
A receiver (100) includes an audio section (200) which provides for compensated squelch settings which are automatically adjustable for changes in operating conditions such as changes in temperature or receiver channel spacing. Temperature circuit (128) provides a temperature signal (134) and controller (122) provides a signal indicating the channel spacing being used by receiver (100). The two signals are combined and formed into an address word which is in turn used to look-up a compensation word from memory location (218). The compensation word is then combined to a default squelch word by adder (216) providing for a compensated squelch word. The compensated squelch word automatically adjusts the squelch circuit's threshold level in order to compensate for changes in operational conditions affecting the squelch circuit.

Abstract:
An illustrative example surgical method includes establishing a tunnel in a bone. At least a portion of the suture is passed through the tunnel. The suture has two ends and first and second loops between the two ends. The first loop includes a button on the suture. The second loop is on one side of the tunnel and the button is on the other side of the tunnel after the portion of the suture has been passed through the tunnel. At least some of the second loop of the suture is passed through soft tissue. Manipulating the second loop over the button positions a portion of the soft tissue between the second loop of the suture and the bone. Adjusting a length of the second loop urges the portion of the soft tissue against the bone where the portion of the soft tissue is held by the suture without tying any knots in the suture.
A dispensing cap for a dispensing system may be adapted for dispensing a roll of longitudinally extending material arranged in a center-pull configuration. The dispensing cap may include a dispensing orifice. A first rim having an inner edge may define a wide end of the dispensing orifice. A second rim having an outer edge may define a narrow end of the dispensing orifice. One or more sidewalls may extend between the inner edge of the first rim and the outer edge of the second rim and define the dispensing orifice between the wide end and the narrow end. The dispensing cap may further include a dispensing slot that defines an opening through the second rim.
