Abstract:A impact resistant, sealable canister is provided comprising a wall structure having a lower edge portion joined to a base. A receiving collar is joined to an opposing top edge portion of the wall structure. The receiving collar includes an annular channel and an inner shoulder having fastener pads. The pads have fastener openings and stationary connector elements. A container lid releasably seals against the collar by operation of fastener parts retained in the lid that engage the collar connector elements. Gasket materials adjacent the collar periphery and around the fastener parts function to provide a reusable sealed canister useful for water activities and other outdoor involvements.

Abstract:Method of precisely positioning a first terminal portion of an elongated tensile rod with respect to a base member coupled to a second terminal portion of the tensile rod which has a threaded portion, involves providing an electrical strain gage measurement device affixed to the tensile rod, a load tube positioned about the rod, having a first terminal portion positioned against the base member, and tightening a nut member over the threaded portion of the rod and against the load tube for producing compression of the tube and tension within the rod until a signal produced by the strain gage measuring device indicates a desired position of a terminal portion of the rod with respect to the base member.

Abstract:A dental handpiece having a low noise level consisting of: an elongated main housing having a head portion at the forward end thereof; a drive shaft located within the main housing and supported by fore and aft bearings mounted within the main housing; a rotor/burr holder located within the head portion of the main housing and supported by bearings mounted within the head portion, the rotor/burr holder being adapted to receive a burr drill or the like; an air-driven axial flow turbine wheel located and supported within the rear portion of the main housing, the turbine wheel being operably connected to the drive shaft; and, a coupling system for operably coupling the forward portion of the drive shaft to the rotor/burr holder. In one embodiment of the invention, the coupling system consists of a set of cylindrical driving magnets mounted on the forward portion of the drive shaft and a corresponding set of cylindrical driven magnets mounted on the rotor/burr holder.

Abstract:A threaded fastener and mating driver system is used to apply a uniform torque to the entire fastener body and thereby facilitate removal of stuck fasteners. The driver tool is a two stage driver with one stage driving the inner bore of the fastener and the second stage driving the fastener head. The two driver stages are linked via a series of pins, each pin acting as an individual lever, such that the two drivers apply torque equally to the fastener. The entire driver assembly is housed in a block which can be attached to a standard ratchet or driving tool. The fastener is designed to be installed using a single stage screwdriver and normally has a foil seal covering the bore drive portion of the fastener. If the fastener becomes stuck, the foil seal is broken and the two stage drive system, including a bore driver and a screw head driver, is inserted into the fastener to effect additional removal torque.
