As an undergraduate, Evans studied male electric knifefish, some of which grow obscenely long jaws or balls of teeth that jut out of their faces. So when Hernandez showed Evans a video of the hingeUnfortunately for the hingemouth, the researchers suggest this extreme anatomical reorganization means the fish may be an evolutionary dead end.
