Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating selection of with which wireless local area network, or other network, that a mobile node should attempt to communicate. A plurality of listings are maintained at storage entities embodied at, or otherwise accessible by, a mobile node. The listings are accessed, in sequence, and entries contained in the listings are compared with networks in whose coverage areas that the mobile node is positioned. Communications are attempted to be effectuated, if possible, with networks in whose coverage area that the mobile node is positioned and whose identities are stored at the first-access listing.

Abstract:

A system and method for managing forbidden network lists on a wireless user equipment (UE) device. In one embodiment, a first database structure is provided that associates a plurality network selection control codes with a corresponding plurality of network selection criteria, the network selection criteria for defining different treatment options for networks identified in a network list associated with the wireless device. A second database structure is populated with a list of networks identified by corresponding network identifiers, wherein each network identifier is associated with a corresponding network selection control code identified in the first database structure. The contents of the database structures, which may be provisioned as part of removable storage module or within a memory of the wireless device, are operable to be updated only by a home network operator.

A system and method for accelerating network selection by a wireless user equipment (UE) device without having to perform a full band scan (FBS). In one exemplary embodiment, the wireless UE device is operable to scan in a network environment for discovering at least one network. Depending upon geographic region information decoded from the discovered network's identity information, a logic structure in the wireless UE device is operable to determine a subset of appropriate frequency data for selective scanning by said wireless UE device. Using the subset of appropriate frequency data, a selective scanning is performed for locating a network by the wireless UE device.

In one embodiment, a scheme is disclosed for routing an incoming call in a network environment including a circuit-switched (CS) network and an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) network, wherein the incoming call is being directed to a user equipment (UE) device disposed in the network environment.
