Abstract:

Distractor straps for use with distractor apparatuses are disclosed. In one embodiment, a distractor strap includes a cinch strap having a free end and a second end. The second end of the cinch strap includes an adjustment mechanism receiving the free end of the cinch strap such that the cinch strap forms a closed loop. A diameter of the closed loop is adjustable with the adjustment mechanism. The distractor strap further includes a cross strap comprising a first loop, a second loop, and strapping connecting the first loop and the second loop. The cinch strap is positioned in the first loop and the second loop such that the cross strap extends across the diameter of the closed loop formed by the cinch strap and the cross strap and the cinch strap are slidable with respect to one another.

Abstract:

Embodiments of low profile distractor apparatuses are disclosed. The distractor apparatuses generally comprise a mounting body, a tensioning mechanism coupled to the mounting body and a distractor arm coupled to the tensioning mechanism and pivotally coupled to the mounting body for rotation relative to the mounting body. The tensioning axis of the tensioning mechanism is non-coaxial with an effector axis of the distractor arm and a distraction force applied with the distractor arm is translated to the effector axis. This enables the distractor apparatus to be positioned relative to a patient such that the tensioning mechanism is offset from the long axis of the limb of the patient thereby facilitating improved access to the distal portions of the limb.

Abstract:

A surgical positioning aid includes a sheet of foldable material foldable between a flat position and a wrist support position. In the wrist support position, the sheet is folded to form a hump having sufficient strength to support a patient's wrist in a hyper-extended position during surgery. The sheet also includes a coupler situated at a first end region of the sheet. The coupler is operable to engage an opposite, second end region of the sheet and to hold the sheet in the wrist support position. Many other surgical positioning aid embodiments are also disclosed.

Abstract:

A carriage for a limb support includes a space for receiving a longitudinal member of a patient support apparatus, a plurality of rollers configured to engage the longitudinal member and a locking mechanism. The plurality of rollers is configured to maintain alignment of the carriage during movement of the carriage along the longitudinal member. The carriage also includes an elastomeric member that resists rotation to prevent unwanted motion of the carriage. The locking mechanism is configured to secure the carriage to the longitudinal member at any of an infinite number of positions along the length of the longitudinal member, the locking mechanism being lockable with a single action.

Abstract:

An integrated circuit voltage chop circuit for regulating the current in an inductive load is of the type having a fixed off time. A current-sensing comparator produces a reset signal when the current through the driver exceeds a predetermined peak amplitude. A load driver transistor is turned on and off according to the state of a bistable memory elememt, e. g. a flip flop. An external capacitor and external series resistor are connected to the integrated circuit and they determine the driver off time. A voltage comparator having hysteresis produces a high output logic level when the capacitor charges to a predetermined voltage which sets the flip flop and begins to slowly discharge the capacitor. When the capacitor discharges to a lower predetermined voltage, the voltage comparator output goes to a low logic level turning on a shorting transistor that quickly discharges the capacitor completely. A logic gate with an output connected to the reset terminal of the flip flop resets the flip flop when both the output of the voltage comparator is in the low level and the output of the current-sensing comparator produces the reset signal.

An apparatus includes a drive module having a drive module base component and a load-sensed component. An elongated medical device (EMD) is removably coupled to an isolated component. The isolated component is isolated from an external load other than an actual load acting on the EMD. The isolated component is removably coupled to the load-sensed component. A load sensor is secured to the drive module base component and the load-sensed component sensing the actual load acting on the EMD.
