Abstract:

In a speech synthesizer apparatus, a weighting coefficient training controller calculates acoustic distances in second acoustic feature parameters between one target phoneme from the same phoneme and the phoneme candidates other than the target phoneme based on first acoustic feature parameters and prosodic feature parameters, and determines weighting coefficient vectors for respective target phonemes defining degrees of contribution to the second acoustic feature parameters for respective phoneme candidates by executing a predetermined statistical analysis therefor. Then, a speech unit selector searches for a combination of phoneme candidates which correspond to a phoneme sequence of an input sentence and which minimizes a cost including a target cost representing approximate costs between a target phoneme and the phoneme candidates and a concatenation cost representing approximate costs between two phoneme candidates to be adjacently concatenated, and outputs index information on the searched out combination of phoneme candidates. Further, a speech synthesizer synthesizes a speech signal corresponding to the input phoneme sequence by sequentially reading out speech segments of speech waveform signals corresponding to the index information and concatenating the read speech segments of the speech waveform signals.

Abstract:

A system for incorporating speech recognition into a computer program, including a number of speech controller modules corresponding to program components within the computer program. Each speech controller module supports a speech recognition grammar having at least one rule, where the speech recognition grammar provides an interface to operations on the corresponding program component. The rules of the speech recognition grammar associate spoken commands with data stored in the corresponding program component. A rule may include a reference to another local rule, or to a rule in a different speech recognition grammar, in which case a âlinkâ to the other rule is formed. In this way, the disclosed system allows rules from the same or different grammars to be combined together, in order to build complex grammars. Each speech controller module operates to dynamically enable one or more rules it contains within a speech recognizer, in response to detecting the occurrence of an associated enabling condition. The speech controller module receives a recognition result from the speech recognizer indicating that the speech recognizer has detected one or more tokens associated with an enabled rule.

Abstract:

A system and method for referencing object instances of an application program, and invoking methods on those object instances from within a recognition grammar. A mapping is maintained between at least one string formed using characters in the character set of the recognition grammar and instances of objects in the application program. During operation of the disclosed system, when either the application program or script within a recognition grammar creates an application object instance, a reference to the object instance is added to the mapping table, together with an associated unique string. The unique string may then be used within scripting language in tags of the rule grammar, in order to refer to the object instance that has been âregisteredâ by the application program in this way. A tags parser program may be used to interpret such object instance names while interpreting the scripting language contained in tags included in a recognition result object. The tags parser program calls the methods on such object instances directly, eliminating the need for logic in the application program to make such calls in response to the result tag information.

Abstract:

The invention is a method and apparatus for determining the locations of a plurality of actual objects based on the output of a plurality of range sensors. A multiplicity of range measurements are obtained from a plurality of sensors, each sensor capable of providing a multiplicity of range measurements. The range measurements from the plurality of sensors are correlated with each other to generate a list of potential objects and to order that list of potential objects from highest to lowest likelihood of being an actual object. The order may be based upon a cumulative error of the individual sensor measurements upon which the potential object is based. The ordered list of potential objects is then pared down to a smaller list of actual objects by assuming that the potential object highest in the ordered list as an actual object, and then removing from the list all other lower-ordered potential objects that are based on any of the range measurements upon which the selected object is based. The process is repeated for the next highest potential object remaining on the list until all potential objects on the list have either been selected as an actual object or removed from the list.

Abstract:

The process of the present invention significantly increases the durability of superhydrophobic surfaces, while retaining similar optical properties to those of the original surface. The process uses velocity and heat to take freshly formed nano- and ultrafine particles and can partially embed and chemically bond them to the substrate, creating a strongly bonded nano-to-submicron textured surface. This nanotextured surface can then be modified to have desirable surface properties; for example, it can be hydrophobic, oliophobic, or hydrophilic. The high points of the coating made with this process protect the remainder of the surface from abrasion, thus greatly increasing product life in many uses. In preferred embodiments, the process is used to coat transportation vehicle windshields.

Abstract:

A method of reducing haze by creating a physically stable alcoholic beverage that has been obtained via filtration and separation processes includes receiving retentate from which water has been removed, from a reverse osmosis filter system having an initial alcoholic precursor to the alcoholic beverage in a feed stream, wherein a concentration of alcohol in the retentate has reached between about 10% and 40% by volume, cooling the retentate to a temperature between about 2 degrees below a freezing point of the retentate and a freezing point of the initial alcoholic precursor to the alcoholic beverage in the feed stream, and subjecting the retentate to a clarification process that removes particles having a size of about 0.4-0.8 microns and larger to produce a clarified retentate. The clarification process includes centrifuging, filtration using a filter, and/or forming a supernate and a precipitate and then decanting the supernate.
