Abstract:

High performance engine oils and other liquid lubricants comprise a liquid lubricant basestock of low viscosity from 1. 5 to 12 cSt (100C) with two dissolved polymer components of differing molecular weights. The basestock is preferably a single PAO or blend of PAOs with a co-basestock component which is preferably an ester or an alkylated aromatic of comparable viscosity. The lower molecular weight polymer is highly viscoelastic in character and is preferably an HVI-PAO; this component in the lubricant which provides unexpectedly high film thickness and unexpectedly good wear protection under conditions where the second, higher molecular weight polymer may lose some or all of its thickening power. The use of the highly viscoelastic low molecular weight polymer in combination with the higher molecular weight thickener enables the production of very widely cross-graded engine oils, especially oils with a low temperature grading of 0W or better. Oils with cross gradings of 0W20, 0W30, 0W40 or even more widely cross graded, for example 0W70 or higher may be achieved.

Abstract:

A computer-based method and system for tracking repairs of different types of components. The repair tracking system receives repair orders identifying components of customers that need repair. After a repair order is received, an engineer uses the repair tracking system to assign a repair plan to the repair order. When a repair technician receives a component or subcomponent of a repair order, the repair technician uses the repair tracking system to identify the steps that need to be performed next. After the repair of the component is complete, the repair technician uses the repair tracking system to indicate the completion and to determine where to send the component so that the next step in the repair plan can be performed.

Abstract:

The present invention is directed to a lubricating oil composition comprising a lubricating oil basestock, an organic silane containing additive of at least 0.1 and less than 2.0 weight percent of the composition, a dispersant-detergent-inhibitor system of less than 15 weight percent of the composition, an organic boron additive of at least 0.1 and less than 8.0 weight percent of the composition, a zinc dithiophosphate additive of at least 0.1 weight percent of the composition and less than 1.6 weight percent of the composition and the composition having at least 80 PPM and less than 1600 RPM silicon, at least 100 PPM and less than 630 PPM phosphorus, at least 105 PPM and less than 710 PPM zinc, at least 1,000 PPM and less than 4,000 PPM sulfur, at least 800 PPM, less than 10,000 PPM ash and less than 450 PPM boron. Abstract:

An apparatus for lubricating an operating component of a system in which the operating component is exposed to a range of conditions, such as a range of temperatures, which require adjustment of at least one physical property of the lubricant is described. In one embodiment, at least a portion of the operating component is located within a lubricant reservoir which contains a first lubricant of low density and high viscosity and a second lubricant of higher density and lower viscosity. During certain operating conditions, the lubricants are at least partially immiscible, usually at lower temperatures, and the first lubricant is appropriate for those operating conditions. A change in at least one operating condition which promotes at least partial miscibility of the lubricants, such as higher temperatures, causes the first and second lubricants to mix, at least partially, and form a third lubricant. The third lubricant has at least one property which differs from that of the first and second lubricants, usually a different viscosity. The third lubricant contacts the operating component and is more appropriate for lubricating under the condition which causes at least partial miscibility.

Abstract:

A process is disclosed for the production of low viscosity, high viscosity index liquid lubricant in high yield by the thermally-induced cleavage or pyrolysis of higher molecular weight oligomers of 1-alkenes. Further, it has been discovered that the reduced viscosity lubricants produced by pyrolysis of higher viscosity 1-alkene oligomers retain the superior characteristics of high viscosity index and low pour point of the starting material. The process comprises contacting C. sub. 6 -C. sub. 20 1-alkene feedstock with reduced valence state chromium oxide catalyst on porous silica support under oligomerizing conditions in an oligomerization zone whereby viscosity, high VI liquid hydrocarbon lubricant is produced having branch ratio less than 0. 19 and pour point below --15. degree. C. ; passing said high viscosity liquid lubricant through a pyrolysis zone under pyrolyzing conditions; separating reduced viscosity liquid hydrocarbon lubricant having high VI and low pour point.

Abstract:

A multi-phase lubricant composition useful in a process for lubricating one or more operating components which are exposed to an operating condition change is described. Under a condition at which the lubricants are at least partially miscible, the phases combine to provide a lubricant having a physical property which is modified to be more appropriate for lubricating under the new condition, such as a higher viscosity. Typically the lubricants are at least partially miscible at an elevated temperature and at least partially immiscible at lower temperatures. A density difference between the phases is preferred for ease of separating the phases. The composition is preferably a combination of a hydrocarbon oil and a polyalkylene glycol such as polypropylene glycol.
