Abstract:

A person-support surface comprises a non powered mattress and a coverlet positionable on the non powered mattress. The coverlet includes an entry positioned at a first end of the coverlet, an exit positioned at a second end of the coverlet opposite the entry, an upper air impermeable layer, and a lower air impermeable layer coupled to the upper air impermeable layer to form an air flow path along the coverlet between the entry and the exit. The upper air impermeable layer is a vapor permeable and the lower air impermeable layer is a vapor permeable.

Abstract:

A cooling system for an occupant of an occupant support is a targeted cooling system comprising a coolant conduit having an inlet for receiving coolant from a source of coolant and an outlet for discharging the coolant to a destination The conduit is nonpermanently and manually shape adjustable, shape stable subsequent to adjustment, and removably securable to one or both of the occupant support and the occupant. In one embodiment the destination is an ambient environment selected to achieve targeted coolant delivery to a localized region of the occupant's body. A cooling glove to be worn by a user has at least one coolant intake and at least one ofa) a coolant passage extending from the coolant intake to an exhaust opening andb) a cooperative relationship with the user which defines a fluid pathway bounded in part by the glove and in part by the user.The exhaust opening exhausts coolant from the passage to an ambient environment, to the fluid pathway, or to both. Coolant received by the fluid pathway discharges to an ambient environment.

Abstract:

A method for triggering a pause event in a turn and hold operation applied to a mattress replacement system of a person support apparatus may include inflating at least one air bladder in only one of a right side portion and a left side portion of the mattress replacement system; detecting, automatically with at least one sensor, a force applied to at least one of a frame of the personal support apparatus and the at least one air bladder as the at least one air bladder is inflated; determining, automatically with a microcontroller communicatively coupled to the at least one sensor, if the force applied has a force duration that is greater than a threshold force duration to trigger the pause event; and discontinuing inflation of the at least one air bladder when the pause event is triggered.

Abstract:

An occupant support includes a turn assist layer which includes left and right side arrays of two or more longitudinally distributed turn assist members. Each array member comprises one or more longitudinally distributed turn assist bladders. At least two of the array members on the left side are longitudinally spaced from each other by a left intermember reach-in space having a left intermember dimension. At least two of the array members on the right side are longitudinally spaced from each other by a right intermember reach-in space having a right intermember dimension. A support layer resides above the turn assist layer. The support layer includes a collapsible zone at least part of which overlies the intermember spaces. The occupant support also includes a user interface for enabling a user to operate the turn assist layer.
