The bear had two cubs in tow and became startled, attacking the woman. She was slashed several times, sustaining lacerations on her neck, arms and legs, according to Air Force Maj. Angela Webb. Despite her bloody, dazed state, she managed to walk 2 miles along the curvy, hilly trail to find help.
The woman, who has asked that her identity not be released, suffered lacerations to her neck, arms and legs and was hospitalized in stable condition at the Alaska Native Medical Center, Maj. Angela Webb told The Associated Press.
