Abstract:
Systems, devices, and methods are provided for providing safe syringe assemblies for injections. The syringe assemblies include a shielding mechanism that covers a syringe needle after an injection is delivered, thereby reducing the risk of a subsequent accidental stab from the needle. The shielding mechanism has a pre-injection configuration in which the needle extends beyond the housing and a post-injection configuration in which at least one component of the syringe assembly covers the needle. In some implementations, the syringe assembly includes a lock that inhibits the assembly from returning to the pre-injection configuration once an injection is delivered. The syringe assemblies may also include a bevel orientation mechanism that allows a user to align a needle bevel to accurately insert a needle for injection.

Abstract:
An arterial blood module () that is removably connectable to an arterial blood collection element () is disclosed. The arterial blood module includes a housing (), a needle (), a cap () removably securable over the needle, a mixing chamber (), and a safety shield () engaged with a portion of the housing and transitionable from a first shield position in which a portion of the needle is exposed to a second shield position in which the needle is shielded by a portion of the safety shield. In one embodiment, the present disclosure includes an arterial blood collection system () that includes an arterial blood collection element () defining a collection chamber () and an arterial blood module () removably connectable to a portion of the arterial blood collection element.

Abstract:
A biological fluid collection device includes a collection module and an outer housing. The collection module includes a housing comprising a first end having a sample introduction opening, a second end having a sample dispensing opening, and a passageway extending between the sample introduction opening and the sample dispensing opening. A mixing chamber and a holding chamber are in fluid communication with the passageway such that a sample introduced into the sample introduction opening passes through the mixing chamber and subsequently into the holding chamber. The biological fluid collection device further includes a closure covering the first end, a cap covering the second end and including a vented plug, and an activation member adapted to force a sample contained in the holding chamber out of the sample dispensing opening. The collection module is positioned inside of the outer housing and the closure closes the open end of the outer housing.
