Long Island Health Information Management Association
In 1977 Carmela Ormandy called a meeting with all credentialed medical record professionals who worked on Long Island. The discussion was centered on the fact that all of the educational programs were located in NYC at the Greater New York Medical Record Association, now called HIMANYC. Carmela presented the possibility of creating a local association for the Long Island region. All present at the meeting agreed to support this effort. It was Carmela Ormandy who worked tirelessly with a select group of people to develop the ByLaws that were approved by the Board of MRANYS (now NYHIMA) and in 1979 the Long Island Medical Record Association (now LIHIMA) was born. To honor the efforts of Carmela, one person with an idea, a passion and a mission, we continue to offer the educational programs locally for our members. We honor Carmela Ormandy annually by selecting a member who demonstrates that same commitment and passion to support the mission of the Long Island Health Information Management Association.
