Abstract:

Changes in the electrical state of devices connected to a plurality of wiring terminals are detected and recorded by a data recording system programmed to evaluate the terminals singularly or in groups of various combinations. A central controller is programmed to generate terminal address data, either singularly or in groups of various combinations, and these terminal addresses are applied to a cable driver that partially decodes the address data into one of several selected terminal groups. The partially decoded terminal address data is applied to decoder/selectors for each of several major terminal groups wherein further decoding takes place. Only one of the detector/selectors is activated by the partially decoded address data to further decode the address to identify a particular terminal or group of terminals. The decoded data provides a control signal that actuates terminal gates for the selected terminals to couple a voltage at the terminals to a detector/control. The detector/control converts the voltage at the selected terminals into an electrical state code that is applied through the cable driver to the central controller.

Abstract:

A television receiver programming and selection monitoring system is provided to permit a television viewer to preselect a television viewing schedule of desired television channels to be viewed during subsequent time periods. The system also permits the monitoring by a remote data processing center of the actual television programs viewed by the television viewer. The programming portion of the system includes first and second switches for preselecting a desired time period and for preselecting one of a plurality of television channels to be viewed during the preselected time period. A recording device is provided and is interconnected to the first and second switches. The system further includes a tone generator for producing a plurality of unique tones. The first switch is operable to drive the recording device and the second switch is operable to select and apply ones of the plurality of unique tones to the recording device, wherein the selected ones of the plurality of unique tones correspond to the preselected television channel. Through operation of the first and second switches the recording device generates a record of the preselected television viewing schedule.

Abstract:

A telephone test and assignment bureau is provided with a telephone instrument interconnected with an automatic wire pair identification field unit. A telephone number to be verified is dialed on the instrument and a start button is illuminated when the connection is completed by the switching equipment. Pressing this button initiates the verification procedure, and the wire pair identification field unit sends an interrogate signal over the telephone line to the central office. A wire pair identification control unit is connected via shoes at the main distributing frame to the cable having the wire pair assigned to the telephone number dialed. When the interrogate signal is received by the wire pair identification control unit it sends an identifying code back over the same telephone line to identify which wire pair on the main distribution frame was selected by the switching equipment in response to the telephone number dialed. This identifying code is received by the wire pair identification field unit in the test and assignment bureau, and the number of the pair is displayed. The displayed number can then be checked against the telephone number assignment records.
