Disclosed are one or more proximity sensors. At least one of the proximity sensors includes a first dielectric layer, an electrically conductive layer, and an electrode. The first dielectric layer includes an inner surface and an outer surface. The electrically conductive layer is positioned proximate to one of the inner surface or the outer surface of the first dielectric layer. The electrode includes an outer surface. The outer surface of the electrode is positioned proximate the inner surface of the first dielectric layer. The outer surface of the electrode and the electrically conductive layer define a gap.

Abstract:

An apparatus () is disclosed. The apparatus includes a rigid frame (), an electroactive polymer film () defining an aperture () where the electroactive polymer film has a first and second side. A first electrode is located on the first side of the electroactive polymer film and a second electrode is located on the second side of the electroactive polymer film. The aperture is configured to deform upon the application of an electric voltage potential to the first and second electrodes. A method of making an electroactive device is also disclosed. The method includes positioning an electroactive polymer film within a rigid frame and forming an aperture within the electroactive polymer film.
