Abstract:

In accordance with one embodiment of the present disclosure, a semiconductor substrate includes complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) circuitry disposed outwardly from the semiconductor substrate. An electrode is disposed outwardly from the CMOS circuitry. The electrode is electrically coupled to the CMOS circuitry. A resonator is disposed outwardly from the electrode. The resonator is operable to oscillate at a resonance frequency in response to an electrostatic field propagated, at least in part, by the electrode.

A frequency synthesizer and a method of synthesizing an output signal. In one embodiment, the frequency synthesizer includes: (1) a substrate, (2) a resonator located on the substrate and comprising a micro electromechanical system device and a feedback amplifier coupled thereto, (3) a phase-locked loop located on the substrate and coupled to the resonator, (4) control logic located on the substrate and configured to control the phase-locked loop based on a known resonant frequency of the micro electromechanical system device and (5) a voltage-controlled oscillator located on the substrate and coupled to the phase-locked loop.

Abstract:

A MEMS mixer filter including an array of a multiplicity of resonator elements with conductive outer surfaces in a coplanar rectangularly tiled array, and two sets of DC bias lines in which alternating resonator elements in each row and column are connected to one or the other sets of bias lines so that laterally adjacent resonators may be biased to a DC potential. The resonator elements are uniform in size and shape. Lateral dimensions of the resonator elements are between 5 and 50 microns. The resonator elements are between 100 nanometers and 100 microns thick, and adjacent resonator elements are separated by a gap between 100 and 500 nanometers. A process of forming the MEMS mixer filter.

Abstract:

A MEMS electrostatic actuator includes a bottom plate affixed to a substrate and a top plate suspended above the bottom plate. The top plate has a parallel plate center section and two rotating members electrically connected to the center section. Each rotating member is attached centrally of the rotating member for rotation about an axis of rotation to a set of anchor posts. The attachment includes at least one pair of torsional springs attached along each axis, each spring comprising a rectangular metal square that twists as the rotational members rotate. Electrostatic pull-down electrodes are underneath each rotational member.

The processing system may then configure the data pipeline components in accordance with the plan.

A novel lighting system includes a solar collector panel comprising a plurality of reflector elements configured to track and be oriented optimally to receive electromagnetic radiation from the sun and reflect the received electromagnetic radiation toward a skylight in a roof of a building, a dichroic mirror disposed in the skylight and oriented and configured to receive the reflected electromagnetic radiation from the solar collector panel, the dichroic mirror being configured to reflect electromagnetic radiation of a first specific range of wavelengths downward into the building and pass through electromagnetic radiation of a second specific range of wavelengths, and a photovoltaic panel oriented and configured to receive electromagnetic radiation of the second specific range of wavelengths that passed through the dichroic mirror and convert it to electricity.

Abstract:

Embodiments of a system and method for collecting electromagnetic radiation are disclosed. One embodiment of a solar concentration system comprises at least one collector panel, the panel comprising a frame and a plurality of moveable reflector elements mounted therewithin, the plurality of movable reflector elements configured to rotate in unison about a set of parallel first axes and in unison about a second axis relative to an electromagnetic radiation source. The system further comprises at least one receiver comprising a support member and a plurality of energy conversion cells positioned along the support member, each energy conversion cell having an electromagnetic radiation concentrator protruding therefrom, the concentrator comprising an optical element and an entry aperture at a distal end thereof. The plurality of movable reflector elements are configured to reflect electromagnetic radiation from the source onto the at least one receiver for transforming electromagnetic radiation into electrical or thermal energy.
