Abstract:
A method of manufacturing electrical terminals and/or a terminal module is disclosed. The method includes the steps of stamping from a sheet of metal material a blank for a plurality of elongated terminals having contact portions at one end and terminal portions at the other end and joining the terminals by a tie bar intermediate the ends. The contact portions of the respective terminals are separated from each other by the stamping step. The terminal portions remain joined in the sheet of metal after the stamping step. The blank then is sheared to separate the terminal portions. The tie bar is cut to separate the terminals. In order to form a terminal module, a dielectric housing is overmolded about the terminals intermediate the ends thereof, with the tie bar being located outside the housing and removed after the overmolding process.

Abstract:
A female terminal with a passageway is defined by generally spaced apart sidewalls for receiving a male terminal. The passageway may be configured from two U-shaped channels, with a primary contact and a sacrificial contact stamped from each sidewall of each U-shaped channel with the sacrificial contacts located forward of the primary contact. The sacrificial contacts are disposed in the direction of insertion of the male terminal into the passageway, and are separated from the sidewall by apertures above and below the sacrificial contact so that any residue from arcing is mostly contained at the edges of the sacrificial contacts.

Abstract:
An electrical receptacle terminal is provided for receiving a mating terminal pin. The terminal includes a front mating end, a rear terminating end and a generally U-shaped base portion between the ends. The base portion includes a base wall, a pair of continuous and solid side walls projecting upwardly from the base wall and a pair of contact arms projecting upwardly from each side wall. The contact arms have opposing contact portions defining multiple contact points on each side of the U-shaped base portion for engaging the terminal pin inserted between the pairs of contact arms.

Abstract:
A female terminal with a mating end suited for receiving a male pin with flat surfaces and a circuit-connecting end for connection to a wire. A terminal-receiving passageway at the mating end has two spaced apart sidewalls, which may be in the form of U-shaped channels, extending lengthwise along the passageway with one or more slots separating the U-shaped channels. Enlarged flat contacting surfaces are formed in the opposing sidewalls and are disposed at an angle to the sidewalls. The sidewalls resiliently flex apart from each other as the male pin is inserted into the passageway such that the angled contacting surfaces become coplanar with the flat surfaces of the male pin and electrically contact the male pin over a greater area than that provided by dimples. One or more notches may be disposed at selected points in the sidewalls of the female terminal to better define and control the flexing characteristics of the spaced apart sidewalls.

Abstract:
A low profile blade receiving electrical connector is provided for mounting on a printed circuit board. The connector includes a dielectric housing having a blade insertion cavity which extends generally parallel to the printed circuit board. A pair of generally U-shaped terminals are mounted on the housing, with one terminal nested within the other terminal. Each terminal includes a pair of side walls joined by a connecting beam. The side walls are generally perpendicular to and electrically connected to the circuit board. The connecting beams are generally parallel to the circuit board. The connecting beams of the two terminals are spaced from each other for receiving a terminal blade therebetween. The connecting beams have contact portions exposed in the blade insertion cavity of the housing for engaging opposite sides of the terminal blade.

Abstract:
An electrical power connector is mountable on a printed circuit board. The connector includes an outer terminal and an inner terminal, both of which are of generally inverted U-shaped configurations, with the inner terminal nested in the outer terminal. Solder tails project downwardly from bottom edges of side walls of the two terminals. Both terminals have a pair of blade portions projecting forwardly from the respective side walls of the terminals, whereby the blade portions of each terminal are spaced from each other. The blade portions of one terminal are generally coplanar with the blade portions of the other terminal. A dielectric housing is overmolded about the side walls of the outer terminal, leaving the solder tails and the outside surfaces of the blade portions exposed. The housing has a projecting portion extending into the spacing between the blade portions of the two terminals against the inside surfaces of the blade portions, leaving the outside surfaces of the blade portions exposed.

Abstract:
A side-entry, blade-receiving electrical connector is provided for mounting on a printed circuit board. The connector includes a dielectric housing having a bottom wall and a blade-receiving receptacle at a side of the housing. At least one conductive terminal is mounted on the housing and includes a contact section exposed within the receptacle for electrically engaging a terminal blade of a complementary mating connecting device inserted into the side receptacle generally parallel to the printed circuit board. A mounting section is exposed exteriorly of the housing below the bottom wall thereof for mounting the connector on the printed circuit board. A flex section joins the mounting section to the contact section and performs a dual function of (a) spacing the bottom wall of the housing above the printed circuit board and (b) providing a yielding flexibility between the connector and the board.

Abstract:
A laminated terminal is provided for an electrical connector and includes a plurality of flat metal layers juxtaposed to form a laminated structure. Each metal layer includes a joining section, a contact section and a terminating section. A plurality of projections on the joining sections of the layers are interengaged within a respective plurality of recesses in adjacent layers to align the layers and provide a strong mechanical and good electrical joint between the layers. Solder tails extend linearly along the bottom edge of each joining section to form a plurality of rows of solder tails, and the terminating portions of the metal layers are bent outwardly to separate the rows of solder tails from each other. The contact section of one metal layer may include a generally planar finger which is coplanar with a planar finger of another of the metal layers.
