Some embodiments provide a drum structural framework comprising a top shell mount, bottom shell mount, rod holders, and tension rods. The top shell mount and bottom shell mount are mounted to either ending edge of a drum shell disposed between the two mounts. A first set of the rod holders are coupled to the top shell mount and an aligned second set of the rod holders are coupled to the bottom shell mount. The tension rods link the two sets of rod holders without hindering resonance of the drum shell. Tuning assemblies on the rod holders adjust the distance separating the top shell mount from the bottom shell mount, thereby controlling the force imposed on the drum shell. Each rod holder includes one or more dampeners that isolate energy passing from the drumhead to the shell from also reverberating throughout the structural framework of the tension rods and rod holders.
Some embodiments provide drum mounts for mounting a drum to supporting bracket arms, stands, or racks in a manner that does not impede drum shell resonance and that shields the drum mount and structure upon which the drum is mounted from absorbing the drum's vibrational energy during play. The drum mount is comprised of an inner mount plate, outer mount bar, and coupling assemblies. Each of the inner mount plate and outer mount bar couple to a drum shell or tension ring using the coupling assemblies. The coupling assemblies also couple the inner mount plate to the outer mount bar. The coupling assemblies include dampeners and endcaps with protrusions for minimizing surface area contact points from which energy can be transferred to the drum mount.
Provided are interchangeable bearing edge rings for drum shells assembled with traditional lug holders. Different bearing edge rings can be inserted in between the drum shell and the drumhead to change the sound of the drum during play. Some embodiments provide a modified drum shell with top and bottom rims that have a groove. Bearing edge rings with complimentary slits can be inset in the grooves in order to change the drum bearing edge and sound as desired. Alternatively, the bearing edge rings can have support extensions instead of the slits for coupling to unmodified drum shells. The support extensions extend downwards from either side of the ring and are separated by a distance equal to the width of the drum shell rim. The support extensions straddle the drum shell rim to retain the position of bearing edge ring over the drum shell rim.
