Abstract:
Apparatus and methods are provided for subsidizing Internet access through advertising using a âportal providerâ that supplies a âmini-portalâ to the users of selected Internet service providers (ISPs). The mini-portal includes communications hardware, for connecting to the Internet, and display software, for displaying advertisements or other messages from local non-volatile storage during idle time, such as when the users computer is connecting to the Internet. Advertisers are sold access to display their advertisements through the display software, and the revenue thus generated may be used to subsidize providing the mini-portal and Internet access fees. A validation mechanism is provided wherein a validation server operated by the portal provider sends data to the mini-portal that helps keep the advertisements current, and gives the portal provider an ongoing role in providing advertisements to mini-portal users.
An asset securing and tracking system () operates in conjunction with a wireless communication network () for tracking a portable asset (). The system () includes a tracking device () adapted to be attached to the portable asset () and communicate with the wireless communication network (). The tracking device () determines the location of the asset () using signals from GPS satellites () and the terrestrial wireless communication network (). A monitoring station () receives and processes a location signal regarding the geographic location of the portable asset () from tracking device () via the wireless communication network ().

Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for registering biometric information may include receiving the biometric information from an individual; receiving identification information from the individual; and certifying that the identification information identifies the individual. Apparatus and methods for verifying the identity of a participant in an electronic transaction may include receiving over an electronic communication network first physical biometric information derived from the participant; and comparing the first biometric information to second biometric information.

US Classification:

Abstract:
A wireless local area network access point is provided that authenticates users using fingerprint recognition. Users may register fingerprints with the wireless access point with the assistance of an authorized system administrator. When a registered user attempts to access the network, the user may be prompted to provide a fingerprint scan. A fingerprint reader in the user's equipment may be used to capture the user's fingerprint. The captured fingerprint may be submitted to the wireless access point for comparison with a database of fingerprints of authorized users. If the captured fingerprint is valid, the user may be granted wireless network access by the access point.
Wireless Universal Serial Bus Memory Key With Fingerprint Authentication
A wireless universal serial bus (USB) memory key with fingerprint authentication capabilities is provided. The USB memory key contains memory for storing data files. A fingerprint sensor in the wireless USB memory key is used to capture user fingerprints. Wireless transceiver circuitry in the USB memory key allows the memory key to be used to control external equipment. Following successful user authentication using the fingerprint sensor, the memory key may be used to wirelessly control door locks and other equipment.
A computer implemented method and system for generating and managing multiple passwords associated with multiple online accounts is provided. The computer implemented method and system provides a password management platform accessible by a computing device via a network. The password management platform acquires information on the online accounts and user passwords associated with the online accounts via a graphical user interface (GUI) provided by the password management platform. The password management platform generates one or more unique secure random passwords to replace the user passwords for each of the online accounts on receiving an indication via the GUI. The password management platform stores the generated unique secure random passwords associated with each of the online accounts for managing access to each of the online accounts. The password management platform provides direct and secure access to the online accounts using the stored user passwords or the generated unique secure random passwords.
