Abstract:

Embodiments are disclosed for display configurations for providing an augmented reality heads up display. In one example, a mirrorless heads up display device includes a display, at least one micro lens array, an optical element comprising a lenticular lens or parallax barrier positioned between the display and the at least one micro lens array, and a display controller comprising a processor and memory storing instructions executable by the processor to control the display to output image light that passes through the lenticular lens or parallax barrier and the at least one micro lens array and impinges on a transparent plane to form a three-dimensional image.

In one example, a method of operating a display system includes adjusting an output of image light from a display to pass through an optical element positioned between the display and at least one micro lens array, including impinging light upon a transparent plane to generate a three-dimensional image on a continuous plane that is based on a user focal point determined by an eye-tracking module.

Abstract:

Embodiments are disclosed for display configurations for providing an augmented reality heads up display. In one example, a reconfigurable display system includes a display, a moveable optic, an optical element positioned between the display and the moveable optic, a lens actuator configured to control a physical position of the moveable optic, and a display controller comprising a processor and memory, the memory storing instructions executable by the processor to control the lens actuator to move the moveable optic to a position and/or orientation that is selected based on user input and/or dynamic conditions of the reconfigurable display system, the instructions further executable to control an output of image light from the display to pass through the optical element and the moveable optic and impinge upon a transparent plane to generate a viewable image.
