Abstract:
A position sensing device having an insulating board, a first conductive sensing element, a second conductive sensing element, an oscillator, conductive material, a differential amplifier, and a processor. The first and second spaced conductive sensing elements are on the insulating board. The oscillator generates an oscillating signals and the conductive material is spaced from the sensing elements. The conductive material receives the oscillating signal to create an electric field between the conductive material and the first and second sensing elements. The differential amplifier includes differential inputs that are connected to the conductive sensing elements. The signal levels at the differential inputs vary based on the position of a pointing object of a user relative to the first and second conductive sensing elements. The processor generates a position signal based on an output of the differential amplifier.

Abstract:
A device for controlling keyboard keys displayed on a display. A three dimensional position sensing device is used to locate a pointing object such as a finger tip hovering over a display screen. A processor moves the displayed keys in corresponding x and y directions responsive to the two dimensional location of the finger tip. The processor also increases or decreases the size of a portion of the displayed keys depending on whether the finger tip is moving toward or away from the display in the z-direction in order to assist the user in navigating a full keyboard in a small display.

Abstract:
A position sensing device for a display device includes an oscillator, a first and second electrode pair, a transparent conductive layer positioned on a display of the display device, first and second differential amplifiers, an amplifier and a processor. The first differential amplifier provides a first signal indicative of distance of the first electrode pair from the second body part of the operator in an x-direction. The output of the second differential amplifier provides a second signal indicative of distance of the second electrode pair from the second body part of the operator in a y-direction. The output of the amplifier provides a third signal indicative of distance of the transparent conductive layer from the second body part of the operator in a z-direction. The processor is operable to generate a three dimensional distance signal based on the output of the differential amplifiers and amplifier.
System And Method For Sensing The Position Of A Pointing Object Using A Conductive Sheet
A position input device includes a conductive resistive sheet as a sensing element and at least four terminals on the conductive sheet which are spaced apart from each other. The four terminals received oscillating electric field signals that correspond to the three dimensional position of a pointing object based on a capacitive coupling of the pointing object to the conductive sheet. A processor generates the three dimensional position data of the pointing object hovering over the conductive sheet based on oscillating output signals from the four terminals.

Abstract:
A system for sensing the position of a pointer with respect to a reference frame is described wherein the system has a sensing device capable of measuring an electric field around the pointer when it is in proximity to the reference frame and a processing device capable of receiving signals regarding the measured electric field. The sensing device is also capable of taking measurements of the electric field from at least a first and second sensing location. The processing device designates the measurement of the electric field from the second sensing location as a reference value when the measurements of the electric field from the first and second sensing locations meet predetermined qualifications and calculates the position of the pointer on a first axis in the reference frame based on measurements of the electric field from the first and second sensing locations and said reference value.
A system and method for indoor tracking that includes a tracking device with a cell modem and a neural network program. The tracking device is placed in known positions within an indoor area to be tracked. The tracking devices requests RF data from reporting cell towers for each known position of the tracking device and feeds the known position data and RF data received from the reporting cell towers to the neural network program, enabling the neural network program to learn a correlation between the known position data and the RF data. The tracking device can then feed RF data from an unknown position to the learned correlation and enable the learned correlation to generate a predicted position of the tracking device.
Method, Apparatus, And Computer-Readable Medium For Detecting User Presence
An apparatus, computer-readable medium, and computer-implemented method for detecting user presence includes receiving an identifier code from a user device, the identifier code being associated with a transmitter, determining a location of the transmitter based at least in part on the identifier code, and determining that a user associated with the user device is near the location of the transmitter.
