Abstract:

An electronic system for controlling an evaporative cooler ( ) away from the location of a wall-mounted control switch ( ). A remotely triggered high/low module ( ) is installed in a roof-mounted electrical disconnect box ( ). The existing wall-mounted manually operated control switch ( ) is replaced with a new control switch ( ) which contains a pump selection switch ( ), a fan motor selection switch ( ), and a remotely triggered on/off module ( ). A variety of remote control devices can then be used to control the evaporative cooler ( ), such as a PLC time-clock ( ), an RF keychain remote ( ) and PLC transceiver ( ), a PLC thermostat ( ), a PLC setback thermostat ( ), a PLC telephone transponder ( ), or a computer interface ( ).

Abstract:

An electronic evaporative cooler controller includes a clock into which desired on and off times may be programmed. A pre-wet feature provides for engagement of the water pump for a period of time following turn on of the evaporative cooler to permit the cooler pads to become wet before the blower fan is engaged. A plurality of diagnostic visual indicators are provided to allow the user to quickly recognize faults that may occur in various components of the controller.
