Abstract:
A method of treating root avulsion injury in a subject in need thereof includes administering to the subject a therapeutic agent that inhibits one or more of catalytic activity, signaling, and function of PTPĪ.
"Our treatment strategy was designed to be easily translatable," said Bradley Lang, a Silver lab graduate student and lead author on the study. "Our goal is to progress this treatment forward for use as a therapeutic following spinal cord injury."
On a hunch, Bradley Lang, Ph.D., the lead author of the study and a graduate student in Dr. Silver's lab, came up with the idea of designing a drug that would help axons regenerate without having to touch the healing spinal cord, as current treatments may require.
