Abstract:

The Doppler insensitive non-terrestrial digital cellular communications network ensures that, independent of the aircraft direction and apparent velocity of the mobile subscriber station, at least one and very likely two cells/antennas, carry the call even though other cells/antennas in the non-terrestrial digital cellular communications network encounter an apparent velocity of the mobile subscriber station which disables system operation. Since the architecture of the non-terrestrial digital cellular communications network and the non-terrestrial communication application have a common element, namely altitude, it is also possible to minimize the Doppler/capacity problem by segmenting the non-terrestrial space into layers, or PN code words. This topology makes use of spatial diversity in the elevation plane, or âZ directionâ to ensure that at least one and very likely two layers, can carry the call. Each layer in the cell is formed by an antenna beam, having different system configurations to preset the level of soft hand-off.

Abstract:

The disclosed computer-implemented method for determining a proximity status between electrodes may include detecting an amount of electrical charge an electrode among other electrodes that are communicatively coupled to an artificial reality device. The method may further include determining, based on the detected amount of electrical charge at the electrode, a mutual capacitance measurement that indicates an amount of mutual capacitance between the other electrodes. The method may also include determining, based on the mutual capacitance measurement, a relative proximity status between the electrodes, where the relative proximity status indicates a degree to which the electrodes are in proximity with each other. The method may further include providing the determined relative proximity status between the electrodes as an input to the artificial reality device. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

Abstract:

An apparatus for creating haptic stimulations is provided. The apparatus includes one or more pods coupled to a garment, each pod including: (i) an internal structure, and (ii) an airtight bladder surrounding the internal structure, where the bladder is pneumatically coupled to a pneumatic device that is configured to control a pressurized state of the bladder. Each pod is configured to: (i) have a first degree of flexibility when the bladder of the pod is in a first pressurized state; and (ii) have a second degree of flexibility, less than the first degree of flexibility, when the bladder of the pod is in a second pressurized state different from the first pressurized state. Each pod provides a haptic stimulation to a wearer of the garment when the corresponding bladder is in the second pressurized state.

Input device haptics and pressure sensing techniques are described. An input device includes an outer surface, a pressure sensor and haptic feedback mechanism, and a pressure sensing and haptic feedback module. The outer surface is configured to receive an application of pressure by an object. The pressure sensor and haptic feedback mechanism has one or more piezos configured to detect and quantify an amount of the application of the pressure to the outer surface by the object, the one or more piezos configured to output a signal indicating the quantified amount of the pressure. Abstract:

Inadvertent input control techniques are described. In one or more implementations, techniques are described that leverage force to determine a likelihood that a user intended to provide an input, e.g., a selection input (e.g., a “click”), gesture, lift off, and so forth. This is usable to identify taps, hovers, continuation of movement of a drag operation, and so on. Implementations are also discussed that leverage an n-manifold in the product space of contact size and signal strength that is usable to define a likelihood of whether a contact includes an application of force. A variety of other examples are also described, including cursor stability techniques that leverage force in order to control movement of a cursor.

Abstract:

Combined sensor systems are described. In one or more implementations, an input device includes a sensor substrate having conductors and a flexible contact layer spaced apart from the sensor substrate. The input device includes a combined sensor system having a capacitive sensor assembly to detect a location of an object proximate to a capacitive sensor and a pressure sensitive sensor assembly configured to detect an amount of pressure applied against a pressure sensitive sensor. The pressure sensitive sensors are interspersed with capacitive sensors in a geometric pattern that enables isolation of signals for pressure detection and capacitive sensing. The combined sensor system includes support structures proximate to the pressure sensitive sensors for pre-load control over force sensitive resistors of the flexible contact layer. The combined sensor system also includes adhesive disposed in association with positions of the capacitive sensors to stabilize capacitive sensing under the influence of pressure.
