A vehicle suspension comprising a pair of leaf springs arranged to extend longitudinally of the frame of a vehicle on opposed sides thereof with each leaf spring having one of its ends pivotally connected to the vehicle frame at a fixed location and which have an axle secured thereto between the ends thereof. A first bracket rigidly attaches each leaf spring at or adjacent the fixed location where the end of the leaf spring is connected to the vehicle frame. A radius arm extends longitudinally on each side of the vehicle frame and has one end thereof pivotally connected to the first bracket in a spaced-apart relationship to the fixed location. A second bracket is rigidly attached to the axle and is connected to the other end of the corresponding radius arm in a spaced relationship to the axle. Modified versions of the suspension are also disclosed.

Abstract:
A method for governing care of a person includes determining the importance of a candidate activity () relative to the importance of patient sleep continuity () and, if the candidate activity is more important than sleep continuity, carrying out the activity or indicating the acceptability of carrying out the activity () and, if the candidate activity is not more important than sleep continuity, refraining from carrying out the activity or indicating the unacceptability of carrying out the activity (). A system for patient care governance comprises a decision engine () for determining the importance of the candidate activity relative to the importance of sleep continuity, and a controller () responsive to the decision engine for issuing a command to carry out the activity or indicate the acceptability of carrying out the activity (), refrain from carrying out the activity or indicate the unacceptability of carrying out the activity ().
A person support apparatus comprises a lower frame, an upper frame, and a lift system. The upper frame is configured to support a person. The lift system is coupled to the lower frame and the upper frame and is configured to move the upper frame with respect to the lower frame at a first speed when the person on the upper frame is below a predetermined weight and move the upper frame with respect to the lower frame at second speed when the person is above the predetermined weight.

Abstract:
A person support apparatus comprises a lower frame, an upper frame, a drive structure, and a control system. The upper frame is movably supported above the lower frame. The drive structure is coupled to the upper frame and configured to selectively engage a surface to, when activated, propel the person support apparatus along the surface. The control system is configured to determine an engagement status of the drive structure with the surface and trigger a response based on the engagement status.

Abstract:
A heat sink is formed from a base component and a clamping component. The base component and clamping component include a locking groove and a tab for insertion into the locking groove. The clamping component includes at least one clamping leg. The base component includes a surface. The clamping leg is designed to snap over the surface to couple the two components together and capture between them in heat conducting relationship with at least one of the components at least one device which evolves heat during its operation.

Abstract:
A time-based wireless pairing operation between a medical device, such as a patient bed, and a wall module in a patient room is initiated in response to a power plug of the medical device being plugged into a power receptacle carried by the wall module. Times determined by timers of the medical device and the wall module are compared by the wall module or by the medical device so that wireless pairing occurs only with the medical device that was plugged into the wall module. Different types of plug detectors used in the wall module to detect connection of the power plug include optical detectors, mechanical switches, and current sensors.

Abstract:
A modular patient support apparatus includes linkages which provide advanced kinematics for moving portions of the patient support apparatus. The patient support apparatus includes a cantilevered lift system supporting an upper frame, the cantilevered lift system including a linkage configured to raise the upper frame in a substantially vertical direction, a telescopic cylinder engaged with the linkage, the telescopic extension and retraction of the cylinder causing the linkage to move, and a lift assist assembly, the lift assist assembly being loaded as the cantilevered lift system is lowered to impart a force on the linkage to reduce the load on the telescopic cylinder. The lift system includes an actuation system that operates manually or with power.
