Abstract:

A circulating fluidized bed boiler having improved reactant utilization. The circulating fluidized bed boiler includes a circulating fluidized bed having a dense bed portion; a lower furnace portion adjacent to the dense bed portion; and an upper furnace portion, wherein the dense bed portion of the circulating fluidized bed boiler is maintained below the stoichiometric ratio (fuel rich stage) and the lower furnace portion is maintained above the stoichiometric ratio (fuel lean stage), thereby reducing the formation of NOx. ; a reactant to reduce the emission of at least one combustion product in the flue gas; and a plurality of secondary air injection ports downstream of the circulating fluidized bed for providing mixing of the reactant and the flue gas in the furnace above the dense bed, wherein the amount of reactant required for the reduction of the emission of the combustion product is reduced. In a preferred embodiment, the circulating fluidized bed boiler may further include a return system for returning carry over particles from the flue gas to the circulating fluidized bed.

Abstract:

The present invention is an apparatus and method for acquiring an image of an object and its contents from a stream of objects as they are transported by a conveyor. The image of the object is acquired by projecting a beam of electromagnetic radiation through the object and converting the resultant electromagnetic radiation by a sensor. The sensor accumulates the resultant electromagnetic radiation over a period of time that is a pre-defined relationship or function of the spatial relationship between the position of the object and the beam of electromagnetic radiation. A setup means is provided which allows a user to pre-define a set of constants in the pre-defined relationship.

A combustion system having improved mercury collection. The system includes a combustion chamber for burning a fuel containing mercury, whereby burning produces a flue gas stream containing mercury and a device for removing mercury from the flue gas stream. The device includes a thermopolymer substrate; and a mercury-receptor attached to the substrate. In one embodiment, the system may further include a collector downstream of the device for collecting the mercury attached to the thermopolymer. The inventions further include alternative methods of mercury removal and preparation of the polymer substrate.

The present invention provides a method for treating tumors or tumor metastases in a patient, comprising administering to the patient simultaneously or sequentially a therapeutically effective amount of an EGFR kinase inhibitor and cisplatin combination, with or without additional agents or treatments, such as other anti-cancer drugs or radiation therapy. Abstract:

A method of operating a furnace having a circulating fluidized bed is described. Fuel is combusted in the fluidized bed. The fluidized bed includes a dense bed portion and a lower furnace portion adjacent to the dense bed portion. Reactant is injected in the furnace to reduce the emission of at least one combustion product in the flue gas. Secondary air is injected into the furnace above the dense bed. Using this method, the amount of reactant needed to reduce the emission of the at least one combustion product is reduced.

A method and apparatus for treating a coal combustion flue gas.
