A toy employing a simple yet unique pivoting mechanism to provide back and forth and side to side pivoting movements and operable to wiggle, twist back and forth, and roll the toy over numerous times imitating a playing, cuddling and rolling over puppy or the like. The toy includes a body portion, a first pivoting portion, and a first linkage coupling the body portion to the first pivoting portion at an angled pivot point offset from a vertical axis intersecting the point at which the body and the first pivoting portions are coupled. An angled surface is included at the first pivoting portion and a gear mechanism is coupled to the body portion and operable to pivot the first pivoting portion with respect to the body portion driving the pivoting action at the angled surface of the first pivoting portion providing back and forth and side to side pivoting movements.

Abstract:
A cartwheel tumbling doll has a torso and a head mounted on the torso. An axis extends generally through the center of the head and torso. A pair of arms, each arm having a shoulder end and a hand end, are mounted for limited pivotal movement adjacent each arm's shoulder about a respective axis that is generally perpendicular to the center axis. A pair of legs, each leg having a hip end and a foot end, are mounted adjacent each leg's hip for limited pivotal movement relative to the torso about a respective axis that is generally perpendicular to the center axis. A weight is releasably connected to each hand. The foot of each leg contacts a substantially planar surface to support the doll in a generally upright position with the arms extended away from the feet and carrying the releasably connected weights. Pushing one side of the doll causes it to tumble sideways or cartwheel. When each weight contacts the surface, a release mechanism releases each weight from its respective hand permitting the doll to continue to cartwheel until the feet again contact the surface and the doll is in the generally upright position.

Abstract:
The present system relates to a toy and play system that provides 360-degree play surfaces along with extendable play areas. Multiple embodiments of the toys may be arranged proximal to one another to create an extended play environment. The toys may be manipulated from a closed orientation to an open orientation that provides for horizontal and vertical play while maintaining stability of the toy.
