A personal care absorbent article, such as a sanitary pad or napkin, wound dressing, and the like having one or more layers of absorbent material treated with a red blood cell lysing agent and a gelling agent. The effect of combining a lysing agent that thins menses or other blood-containing bodily fluids with a gelling agent that thickens menses or other blood-containing bodily fluids is enhanced agglomeration and increased viscosity of the blood-containing bodily fluids that come in contact with the treated material.

Abstract:
A patch having a notch therein and a tie coupled thereto is used to provide a closure for a garment, such as a gown. The notch is formed along an edge of the patch, and the tie is coupled to the patch such that it is positioned to extend across and beyond the notch. The notch acts to disperse tension on the patch when tension is applied to the tie. A gown having a notched patch is also disclosed.
Three Piece Drape With Fluid Diversion Capabilities
A three-piece surgical drape with fluid diverting channel or sleeve therein and method of making or assembling the same. The drape generally including a first liquid impermeable section attached at either end thereof to second and third sections of the drape, respectively. At least a portion of one end of the first section of the drape folded back upon itself and intermittently tacked or bonded to the first section to create a channel or sleeve adapted to divert fluids. The channel or sleeve may also have a tube or hose placed therein to facilitate or enhance fluid diversion through the channel or fluid removal therefrom.

Abstract:
A personal care absorbent article, such as a sanitary pad or napkin, tampon, wound dressing, and the like having one or more layers of absorbent material treated with a density modulator. The treated layer or layers are highly wettable and upon contact with blood-containing bodily fluids undergo a decrease in density, thereby increasing the absorbent capacity of the treated material.

Abstract:
A striped material and a stripe focusing plate for making striped material. The stripe focusing plate includes a number of grooves extending through the plate, each groove having a transverse width l. The stripe focusing plate also includes a number of triangular prisms, each adjacent a groove and having a slope between about 70 and about 85 degrees. Particles distributed onto the plate fall through the grooves onto a substrate positioned below the plate to form stripes on the substrate. Each of the stripes has a half-height width L, and a sharpness coefficient L/l of less than 1. The resulting striped material is particularly suitable for use in disposable absorbent articles.

Abstract:
There is disclosed the use of bonding and the placement of a reinforcement piece to meet AAMI levels 3 and 4 barrier properties in surgical gowns and similar articles formed from thermally sensitive laminate barrier materials that are composed of thermoplastic polymers. The reinforcement piece is placed on the side opposite of the tie and the bonding uses a point-unbonded pattern.

Abstract:
A protective garment, such as a surgical gown, includes a garment body defining sleeves. A cuff may be secured at respective ends of the sleeves. A circumferentially extending coating is disposed on the sleeves beginning at the sleeve or cuff. The coating has a high friction surface such that an end of a glove pulled over the coating is inhibited from rolling or sliding back over the coating and down the sleeve. The coating may be formed of a low-tack surface modifier and may include a dye or colorant that may be used to indicate the fluid protection level of, for example, a surgical gown. Additionally, a second coating of a phase change and/or shape memory material may be applied to the protective garment.
