Abstract:

An apparatus for registering film in a drum scanner assembly including; a concave curved film platen having spaced first and second linear edges that are oriented horizontally and third and fourth curved side edges connected between the first and second edges, the concave, curved film platen having a curved surface defining a curved film path having a first downwardly curved position and a second upwardly curved position from the first to the second edges, first and second spaced film engagement assemblies independently and movably mounted relative to the platen at the second portion of the film path, the assemblies having film registration slides for engaging the leading edge of a sheet of film fed onto the concave, curved film platen from the first edge and along the curved film path the slides being mounted for movement over substantially the length of the second portion of the path and being adapted to register films of different lengths; and device associated with the slides for biasing the slides through the force of gravity against the leading edge of the film, wherein as the film is fed along the curved path, the slides are moved upwardly by the film against the force of gravity wherein the film is caused to conform to the curved film platen and wherein the independently mounted slides act to remove skew from the fed film.

Abstract:

A filament coating apparatus comprising a frame including a first filament holding fixture and a second holding fixture for releasably securing a filament adjacent to an extrusion coating fixture also attached to said frame. The extrusion coating fixture comprises a guide rod, a carriage movably mounted on the guide rod, and a coating head including an opening for directing a curable coating composition to a filament positioned in a channel formed in the coating head. A radiation source is aligned to the coating head for radiation curing of the curable coating composition applied to the filament. Both the coating head and the radiation source are joined to the carriage to move relative to a portion of a filament during application of curable coating composition to its surface.

Abstract:

A method for manufacturing a coated optical fiber including the step of determining a desired temperature operating range of a coated optical fiber having at least one critical limit. The intercoating delamination stresses at the critical limit of said temperature range are determined. A zero-stress temperature region using the critical limit and the delamination stresses is then selected. An optical fiber is provided and the optical fiber is coated with a first polymer coating. The first polymer coating is exposed to a source of actinic radiation, wherein the source of actinic radiation generates heat. A second polymer coating including a photopolymerizable composition is applied to the optical fiber directly on the first polymer coating. The second polymer coating is cured, where at the time the second polymer coating is cured the first polymer coating is at the zero-stress temperature region.

Abstract:

A connector for coupling medical tubing (e. g. , a catheter) to an implantable medical device. The connector, in one embodiment, may include a retaining member surrounding an optional housing. The retaining member may have at least one locking finger that extends through at least one corresponding window in the housing and selectively engages a stem of the medical device to retain the end of the catheter relative thereto.
