Abstract:
A phototherapy system and method for automatically replacing a failed light source with a new light source once a failure of a first light source is detected. This system permits the new light source to assume a coaxially aligned position with the proximal end portion of a light transmission medium in place of the failed light source without any manual input by the user. In addition, an improved coupling system is provided for coupling the light transmission medium to the illumination device housing the light sources. The coupling system prevents pull out of the light transmission medium from the illumination device over nearly all rotational angles of the proximal end of the light transmission medium relative to the housing, and over only a relatively small range of angles will some degree of pull out force enable the light transmission medium to be decoupled from the illumination device.

Abstract:
A lancing device having a low-mass, high-velocity lancet decoupled from a drive mechanism when piercing a user's skin. The drive mechanism includes a spring-driven piston that impacts the lancet on firing to propel the lancet from a retracted position towards an extended position. After impact, but before the lancet reaches the extended position, a stop limits the travel of the piston to separate the piston from the lancet. Precise guidance of the lancet minimizes lateral movement of the lancet.

Abstract:
A lancing device including a drive mechanism with a drive spring and a lancet carrier engaged and driven by the drive spring, and further including a lancet with a sharp lancing tip, wherein the lancet floats relative to the carrier and is decoupled from the drive mechanism during at least a portion of a lancing stroke. In one example embodiment the lancet is held in a sled that floats in the carrier, and in another example embodiment the lancet by itself floats in the carrier.

Abstract:
A sampling device () having a housing () with a lancet cartridge () mounted therein. The lancets () of the lancet cartridge () are interconnected by a flexible web (). The lancet cartridge () is not positively engaged within the housing () and can be easily removed. The housing () has an opening () with an adjacent flexible or compressible fin () for dampening the motion of the lancet (). The lancet cartridge () has at least one lancet () with an endcap, and the housing has a cap-removal mechanism () for separating the endcap from the housing (). Anti-tampering features prevent opening of the device when the lancet cartridge () is oriented with a lancet () in a firing position.

Abstract:
A lancing device has a carousel of lancets removably received in a housing. In exemplary embodiments, the lancing device includes a sterility cap positioning mechanism that removes sterility caps from the lancets for actuation and afterwards replaces the sterility caps onto the lancets. Preferably, the lancing device includes a lancet advancing mechanism that automatically advances sequential lancets of the lancet carousel for charging and actuating, and a drive mechanism for actuating the lancets. Also provided are replacement lancet carousels, which include a cylindrical carrier with axial openings and a plurality of the lancets axially oriented in the openings.

Abstract:
An applicator instrument for dispensing surgical fasteners includes a housing, an elongated shaft extending from the housing, a firing rod disposed inside the elongated shaft and being movable within a first plane between a retracted position and an extended position, an advancer disposed inside the elongated shaft and being moveable within a second plane between a retracted position and an extended position, and a staging assembly located adjacent the distal end of the elongated shaft and being adapted to align surgical fasteners with a distal end of the firing rod. The staging assembly is held below the second plane by the advancer when the advancer is in the extended position and the staging assembly is adapted to move into at least partial alignment with the distal end of the firing rod when the advancer is in the retracted position.
