Abstract:

A print head motor control system uses a desired function of print head position versus time and a measured print head position to form an error signal. The print head controller forms a motor drive signal from the sum of a first term corresponding to the square root of the absolute value of the error signal and a second term corresponding to a dead band signal having a predetermined slope if said error signal exceeds a predetermined value. The desired function of print head position versus time may be formed by double integrating a desired function of print head acceleration versus time. The print head motor control preferably also includes a velocity loop subtracting a print head velocity estimated from the measured print head position from the sum. The print head motor control is preferably implemented using a microprocessor.

Abstract:

A method of AC induction motor speed control employing a rotor flux based MRAS (Model Reference Adaptive System) speed observer. Rotor flux-based MRAS speed observers develop two independent rotor flux estimates. The reference rotor flux estimate is based on the currents and voltages in the stator windings, and the adaptive estimate is based on the stator currents and the measured or estimated rotor speed. These two estimates are compared by taking the cross product between them, and this error signal is passed into a proportional-integral (PI) controller, which adjusts the speed until the flux estimates agree with one another. While this method is well-established, the estimator poles become lightly damped at high speeds and prone to stability problems. In this invention, the upper speed range of the rotor flux-based MRAS speed observer is extended by discretely or continuously modifying the gain/bandwidth parameters of the low-pass filter in the adaptive flux estimator as a function of estimated speed.

Abstract:

A radial indexing head tool includes a handle and ratchet head, each with a splined orifice, and a floating splined pin disposed in the splined orifices for coupling them together. The floating splined pin includes a cylindrical axial retainer coupled to the handle and extending into the splined orifices, a plunger configured for axial movement within the axial retainer, and a splined cylinder configured for axial movement along the outside of the axial retainer within the splined orifices. The plunger and splined cylinder are coupled to each other through the cylindrical wall of the retainer. Movement of the splined cylinder aligns or misaligns grooves and splined portions formed on the splined cylinder relative to grooves and splined portions formed in the splined orifices to lock or unlock the ratchet head for movement relative to the handle.

Abstract:

The present invention relates to an indexing mechanism which provides a releasing function to permit the rotation of tool and handle members relative to each other. The indexing mechanism is positioned through two extensions positioned on either the tool or the handle and a third member positioned between the two extensions. Each of the two extensions and the central member includes a splined orifice. A splined pin is positioned in the splined orifices and is moveable to permit release or engagement of the handle and the tool so that the handle and the tool can be released for rotation relative to each other and re-engaged to form a rigid connection between the tool and the handle. The indexing mechanism of the present invention minimizes sticking of the splined pin during release and re-engagement.

Abstract:

A indexable, lockable mechanism for a hand tool, and hand tools with such mechanism, the mechanism comprising a first member having a first splined orifice, a second member having an upper prong with a second splined orifice and a lower prong with a third splined orifice, and a splined pin assembly for insertion through said first, second and third orifices. Abstract:

A wrench head having a jaw with jaw members having interior side faces and throat support surfaces defining an interior for mateably receiving a nut or bolt head. Extending from the top side of each jaw member and the top side of a handle connection portion and overhanging the interior defined by the interior side faces of the jaw members and throat support surfaces is a wrench head overhang, that, when placed over a nut or bolt head, is in contact with the top side of the bolt head or top side of the nut. The wrench head overhang serves to retain the wrench head over the nut or bolt head so that the wrench head cannot slip down off of the nut or bolt head. The overhang is dimensioned so as to that when the wrench of the present invention is used to rotate a nut that has been threaded on a bolt shaft, the bolt shaft will clear the sides of the overhang.
