Abstract:

A transmitter circuit and a receiver circuit couple inductively to allow data communication between a mass transit vehicle farebox and an external computer. Data communication may be performed simultaneously with removal of coins from the farebox via a vacuum hose. Two mating connectors each carry a wire coil; one coil is connected to the transmitter circuit and the other is connected to the receiver circuit. Furthermore, the same connectors that carry the coils may be used to form the vacuum hose connection. A modulated signal representing encoded binary data is applied to the transmitter coil to cause corresponding flux changes. When placed in close proximity to one another, the magnetic flux changes across the gap induce a corresponding modulated signal in the receiver coil. The induced signal in the receiver coil is then decoded to recover the original binary data. The coils thus function as halves of a transformer.

Abstract:

An extendible drapery assembly including a mounting track. A plurality of roller assemblies are slidably coupled along the mounting track. Next provided is a blind control assembly coupled to each of the roller assemblies. Also included is a plurality of discrete blinds each connected to one of the associated blind control assemblies. Each blind includes at least two blind portions hingably coupled along side edges thereof. In use, the blind portions are rotatable between an extended orientation with the blind portions linearly aligned in tandem and a retracted orientation with faces of the blind portions abutting each other. Finally, a control mechanism is provided for allowing the selective transfer of the blind portions between the extended and retracted orientation.

Abstract:

A mechanism for handling a ticket, as for a public transportation system or the like, in which the ticket has a known original value that is updated after each use by a printed visual readout and a magnetically recorded coded record. The mechanism receives a ticket and advances it through an initial stage in which the magnetic record is read and updated. The ticket then advances to a printer, where a single high speed stepper motor drives the ticket and the multiple character print drum, the stepped advance being in increments of character line spacing. At the appropriate line position, the advance drive is disengaged and the new value is printed while the ticket is stationary, after which the drive is engaged to eject the ticket. The action is very rapid and a ticket can be processed in considerably less than one second.
