Abstract:

A method for offloading a cache memory is disclosed. The method generally includes the steps of (A) reading all of a plurality of cache lines from the cache memory in response to an assertion of a signal to offload of the cache memory, (B) generating a plurality of blocks by dividing the cache lines in accordance with a RAID configuration and (C) writing the blocks among a plurality of nonvolatile memories in the RAID configuration, wherein each of the nonvolatile memories has a write bandwidth less than a read bandwidth of the cache memory.

Abstract:

Methods and structure for reprogramming firmware in a storage controller using a virtual machine management (VMM) environment. A storage process (current firmware) in the storage controller operates in a current virtual machine (VM) under control of a hypervisor. Reprogrammed (new) firmware is loaded into a new virtual machine under control of the hypervisor. The new firmware initializes and directs the current firmware to quiesce its processing. The new firmware also requests the hypervisor to map data in the memory space of the current virtual machine into the memory space of the new virtual machine and to transfer ownership/control of devices and network addresses from the current virtual machine to the new virtual machine. The new firmware operating on the new virtual machine then takes control of the storage controller and resumes processing of requests.

Abstract:

A combination walking cane animal stake including first, second and third segments and a tip. The first, second and third segments, each have proximal and distal ends and a long axis. The third segment is interconnected to the first segment distal end and to the second segment proximal end, where the third segment long axis is at an angle with respect to the axis each of the first and second segments. The tip is interconnected to the second segment distal end and is configured so a portion of the second segment is inserted into the ground responsive to a force applied along at least the first segment long axis. The first, second and third segments are substantially straight sections, where each of the segments are interconnected to each other by bends. Further, the third segment long axis is at an angle in the range from about 35 to about 45 degrees and more particularly at an angle of 40 degrees with respect to the second segment long axis. Also, the third segment is interconnected to the first and second segments so the third segment is backwardly and downwardly sloped or forwardly and downwardly sloped.

Abstract:

A square device for use by steel fabricators including a blade member and a beam member attached adjacent one end of the blade member whereby the adjacent inner surfaces of the blade member and beam member are at right angles to each other, and an elongated notch defined by the inner surface of the beam member extending from one end of the inner surface of the beam member to the other end of the beam member and which is of sufficient width whereby a portion of the notch extends above and below the blade member. Abstract:

A can twist is provided for changing the orientation of cans in a conveying system with each can having a leading side and a trailing side as it passes through the can twist. The guide rails for the open and closed ends of the cans are located so that only the trailing side of each can contacts the guide rails. Such contact is, at any one time, substantially a point contact of the open end and its guide rail and substantially a point contact of the closed end and its guide rail. This is accomplished by providing a plurality of frame members and guide rails with each frame member having two short sides and two long sides and securing the guide rails for the open end and the closed end at a location spaced from the center of each short side.
