Abstract:
A bioprosthetic heart valve is disclosed. In a first aspect of the invention, a prosthetic heart valve comprises three mammalian heart valve leaflets, each valve leaflet including a full root length of tissue, the valve leaflets being affixed to one another to define a fluid flow passage, the fluid flow through which may be governed by the valve leaflets. In a second aspect the heart valve comprises a plurality of heart valve leaflets affixed to one another to define a fluid flow passage, the fluid flow through which may be governed by the valve leaflets; and a permanent trimming guide on at least one of the plurality of valve leaflets. In yet a third aspect of the invention, a bioprosthetic heart valve comprises a plurality of assembled parts, wherein the assembled parts are sutured together by hidden and locking stitches.

Biopsy Probe Mechanism Having Multiple Echogenic Features
A biopsy probe mechanism includes an elongate sample receiving member having a longitudinal axis and having a sample receiving notch. An elongate sample receiving member and a cutting cannula are movable relative to one another along a longitudinal axis between a first relative position and a second relative position. A first echogenic feature is established on the elongate sample receiving member and a second echogenic feature is established on the cutting cannula. The first echogenic feature is in longitudinal alignment with the second echogenic feature when the elongate sample receiving member and the cutting cannula are in the first relative position. The first echogenic feature is out of longitudinal alignment with the second echogenic feature when the elongate sample receiving member and the cutting cannula are in the second relative position.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a biological material package comprised of an enclosed compartment and a temperature sensor capable of sensing temperature extremes within the enclosed storage compartment. The temperature sensor is capable of providing a visual indication of a temperature extreme occurring within the enclosed compartment. The indication of the temperature extreme is visible from outside of the enclosed compartment, without opening the enclosed compartment.
Hydrometallurgical Process For Extraction Of Nickel
A hydrometallurgical process for extracting nickel from comminuted nickel-bearing minerals. The process includes the steps of contacting the comminuting nickel-bearing minerals in an extraction zone with an aqueous solution having a concentration of chloride ions, metal ions and sulfuric acid at an elevated temperature and continuing the contact to form an extraction mixture slurry, including a liquid component comprising an aqueous solution containing extracted nickel and iron from the comminuted minerals dissolved therein and a solid tailings component; and, separating the liquid and solid components of the extraction mixture slurry.
Raw coal containing sulfur impurities and water is ground in a vapor-tight extraction zone in contact with a combustible sulfur solvent at an elevated temperature. An extraction mixture slurry is formed which includes a liquid component comprising the solvent and sulfur impurities and a solid component comprising the comminuted, extracted coal. The liquid and solid components of the slurry are separated. At least a portion of the liquid component is preferably treated to separate sulfur. The liquid component is recycled to the extraction zone. If the solid slurry component has an undesirably high pyrite content, it is then reacted with a reagent to decompose the pyrites to water-soluble sulfur compounds and the reaction mixture is washed with water.
Orthopedic Prosthetic Implants With Pyrolytic Carbon Or Ceramic Articulating Surfaces
An orthopedic prosthetic implant having a pyrolytic carbon or ceramic articulating surface and a metallic sheath or shell interfacing with adjacent bone. The articulating surface and shell are attached to one another with a layer of resilient adhesive, such as polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) which forms a shock absorbing layer between the pyrolytic carbon or ceramic parts and the metal parts. Also, a circumferential seal enclosing two adjacent articulating surfaces on adjacent implant parts. The invention further includes first and second implant parts having mating articulating surfaces, the first and second implant parts being joined by ligament structures. Ligament structures include bands or spring means connecting the first and second implant parts.
Chlorination Process For Removing Precious Metals From Ore
A process for removing precious metals from comminuted ores. The process comprises the steps of first contacting comminuted ore with a primary acidic hypochlorite solution, separating the ore from the primary hypochlorite solution and then contacting the separated ore with an aqueous hypochlorite solution having a pH greater than 7.
