Abstract:

This invention relates to novel resins, blends of the novel resins with base polymers and a process for producing a resin comprising combining a reactor feed blend comprising: (a) at least 2 weight % of isoprene, (b) at least 2 weight % of one or more of dicyclopentadiene, substituted cyclopentadienes and substituted dicyclopentadienes, (c) at least 2 weight % piperylene, (d) at least 1 weight % aromatic olefins, and (e) 0 to 92 weight % of additional aliphatic olefins, based upon the weight of the reactor feed blend, with a polymerization catalyst under polymerization conditions, preferably where the ratio of component (c) to component (b) is less than 8 and the ratio of component (a) to component (b) is less than 5.

Abstract:

This invention relates to an adhesive including (a) a copolymer including butene, at least 40 mol % propylene, and from 0 to 30 mol % of a termonomer selected from ethylene and Cto Clinear, branched or cyclic alpha olefins, wherein the copolymer has (i) a weight average molecular weight of 100,000 or less; (ii) a number average molecular weight of 20,000 or less; (iii) an Mw/Mn of 5 or more; and (iv) a viscosity of 8000 mPa. sec or less at 190 C. ; and (b) a hydrocarbon resin, and/or (c) a polypropylene having at least 30% crystallinity having a viscosity of 1500 mPa. s or less at 190 C. , or a tactic polypropylene having a viscosity of 1500 mPa. s or less at 190 C. , provided that if the tactic polypropylene is not present, then the hydrocarbon resin is a cyclopentadiene-based hydrocarbon resin. This invention also relates to blends of the copolymer described above and isotactic polypropylene without hydrocarbon resin.

Abstract:

Disclosed is a process for producing branched polymers including at least 50 mol % C–Colefins. The process may include: (1) feeding a first catalyst, an activator, and one or more C–Colefins into a first reaction zone at a temperature of greater than 70 C. and a residence time of 120 minutes or less to produce a product; (2) feeding the product a second catalyst, and an activator into a second reaction zone at a temperature of greater than 70 C. , and a residence time of 120 minutes or less. One of the catalysts should be chosen to produce a polymer having a weight average molecular weight of 100,000 or less and a crystallinity of 20% or less. The other catalyst should be chosen to producing a polymer having a weight average molecular weight of 100,000 or less and a crystallinity of 20% or more.
