Abstract:

A device comprising a pivoting float and lever arm combination attached to a beam such that the float and lever arm can unfold and change orientation to the ocean surface. The float and lever arm pivot and the float can be rotated to a vertical position relative to the water surface. The lever arm can, for example, be attached to a suspended beam or to the ocean bottom. A method for moving a float and a lever arm in response to ocean wave action comprising pivotally attaching a first end of a lever arm to a float; attaching a second end of the lever arm to a connector component; and attaching an end of the connector component to the ocean floor.

Abstract:

An air compression system for use on the ocean surface comprising an air compressor within a moveable float. The float also contains a drive rack engaged with a drive gear wherein the float moves substantially vertically up and down on the drive rack in response to ocean waves. The float also includes a retention spring to return the float vertically upward and a drive pulley connected to the drive gear moving in response to the float moving along the drive rack and powering the air compressor within the float. Also included is a method of utilizing wave motion to compress air comprising the steps of installing a float at the ocean surface wherein the float can move substantially up and down in response to wave motion and installing a drive rack within the float wherein one end of the drive rack is fixed to a beam that is relatively stable. The method further comprises placing a rotating drive gear that engages the drive rack and rotates as the float moves in relation to the drive rack, placing the rotatable drive gear in communication with further moveable component; and placing the moveable component in communication with a moveable piston of an air compressor.

Abstract:

The disclosure teaches improvements of the lever operated pivoting float with generator. The improved parts include an improvement in the torsion spring system, more streamlined floatation, counter weighted and ballast balanced, buoyant lever arm and a shock absorbing lever arm. The device can also be use up side down. The disclosure also teaches a floating electric power generator including a buoyant float component, a lever arm pivoting on a shaft of the float and attached to a submerged structure, and an electrical generator that includes a shaft that turns in response to the pivoting of the lever arm. Also disclosed is a floating electric power generator including a float in a “U” or horseshoe shape with an opening for mounting the pivoting lever arm on a shaft, a generator contained within one arm of the float, a combination spring and shaft component wherein the springs are compressed by pulling down of the pivoting lever arm, and energy from the compression or relaxation of the power is communicated to the generator shaft to power the generator. The disclosure teaches a floating electric power generator comprising: a float in a “U” or horseshoe shape with an opening for mounting a pod shaped pivoting lever arm on a shaft, a generator contained within the lever arm pod, a chain, coil spring and end cap configuration in communication with a shaft within the lever arm wherein the chain is wrapped about the shaft when the lever arm is pulled down and thereby compressing the spring, a gear component on the shaft in communication with at least one other gear fixed to the generator rotating shaft so that as the lever arm rotates about the shaft, the generator rotating shaft is turned. The pod holds the weight of the generator and the generator acts as a counter weight and ballast to force the back end of the float under as it is lifted out of the water. The pivoting floatation device has large ends and thinner mid sections so that the float will enter the water smoothly.

Abstract:

A long cylinder shaped beam is submerged in the ocean and suspended horizontally by multiple floats for converting ocean wave energy. The long length (at least the distance of the crest of two waves) and heavy weight of the beam, give the floats something stable to pull against. The weight of the beam pulling at the floats is transferred back and forth, as the ocean swells move over the beam, which activate machine components that may be installed in the beam, the floats or with rods connecting the floats to the beam. An individual float will not lift the beam except when the tide raises all the floats. The floats will pull and release the tension of the weight of the beam at randomly different times. The shape of the beam is straight. The ocean surface is continuously curving up and down and the beam will not bend to the shape of the ocean surface, but the floats will mimic the undulating or curvy shape of the ocean surface, and that motion actives the machine.
