Skills:

Patient care consistent with orders from Medical and Surgical doctors. Initiation and management of patients on mechanical ventilation. Weaning patients from mechanical ventilator and transition patients to CPAP or BiPAP as indicated. Administering aerosolized medication and providing humidification for patients with compromised airways. Transporting patients from ICU to special procedures using portable ventilators. Administer Oxygen therapy via nasal cannula, Venti-Mask, Non-Rebreathing Mask, and High Flow systems. Assisting doctors with patient intubations and extubations. Drawing Arterial Blood specimmens. Suctioning of intubated patient as indicated. Placing patients on more than one system to improve patient recovery from their pulmonary insult and these include Nitric Oxide, The Vest, Insufflator-Exsufflator, and High Frequency systems. Positions patients and performs physiotherapy and chest drainage, noting effectiveness. Basic understanding of blood gas and acid base interpretation. Maintain procedures log to document Vent Days and Nitric Oxide use for patients in the ICUs.
