  • Assignee:
Sun Microsystems Inc., a Delaware Corporation
  • International Classification:
    H04B001/74
  • US Classification:
    714/042000
  • Abstract:
A server has a memory and an analyzer. The memory stores a library of symptom descriptions, a library of corresponding diagnoses, a library of corresponding remedies, and a library of corresponding probes. The analyzer is coupled to the memory and has an identifier, a comparator, and a reiterater. The identifier identifies at least one symptom of an application to be probed based on an input. That input can either be a user input describing the symptoms of the application or symptoms previously already identified. The comparator compares the symptoms of the application with the library of symptom descriptions. The reiterator reiteravely operates the identifier on the comparator until the symptoms correspond with a diagnosis from the library of corresponding diagnoses.
  • Apparatus And Method For Transducing An In Vitro Or Mammalian System With A Low-Frequency Signal

  • US Patent:
    20100244818, Sep 30, 2010
  • Filed:
    Nov 20, 2007
  • Appl. No.:
    12/514904
  • Inventors:
Christopher G. Atwood - San Diego CA, US
Bennett Michael Butters - Lacey WA, US
John T. Butters - Del Mar CA, US
Shirin M. Marfatia - San Diego CA, US
Gabriel Vogeli - Encinitas CA, US
  • International Classification:
    G01N 27/72
  • US Classification:
    324233
  • Abstract:
Method and apparatus for generating and selecting low-frequency time-domain signals capable of transducing a mammalian system, to produce an agent-specific effect on the system, are disclosed. Low-frequency time-domain signals are generated in the presence of an injected magnetic stimulus, and the resulting signals are selected by a scoring algorithm, and optionally, by testing each signal identified by the scoring algorithm for its ability to produce an agent-specific response in a in vitro system containing components that are responsive to the agent. The selected signals are used to transduce the mammalian system by applying the signals to an electromagnetic transduction coil that holds the sample.
  • Methods For The Detection Of Biologically Relevant Molecules And Their Interaction Characteristics

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20120181176, Jul 19, 2012
  • Filed:
    Feb 15, 2011
  • Appl. No.:
    13/498141
  • Inventors:
Christopher Gordon Atwood - San Diego CA, US
  • International Classification:
    G01N 27/26
    G01N 27/447
  • US Classification:
    204456, 204549
  • Abstract:
Methods for the detection of biologically relevant molecules that comprise concentrating such molecules into microscopic holes in a sheet of chemically inert material, restricting the openings, and measuring the electric current through the holes or the fluorescence near the hole openings. The electric current or fluorescence will change as the molecules diffuse out of the holes, providing a measure of the diffusion rate and thereby detecting the presence and characteristics of the molecules. For molecules that interact, the diffusion rate will be slower than for molecules that do not interact, yielding a determination of the molecular interaction. Capping the population of holes and inserting into a mass spectrometer allows identification of the molecules.
  • Compositions And Methods Based On Diffusion Of Fluorophores

  • US Patent:
    20220404281, Dec 22, 2022
  • Filed:
    Nov 13, 2020
  • Appl. No.:
    17/776565
  • Inventors:
    - San Diego CA, US
Christopher Gordon ATWOOD - San Diego CA, US
  • Assignee:
Scintimetrics, Inc. - San Diego CA
  • International Classification:
    G01N 21/64
    G01N 33/58
  • Abstract:
The present disclosure provides a method for detection of an analyte in a sample, where the sample is introduced into an analytic chamber along with droplets of an emulsion or gel beads. In another aspect, the present disclosure provides designs for formulations of emulsion drops or gel beads such that they are useful for detection of analytes in a massively parallel manner. Formulations that contain specific combinations of fluorescent particles allow optical determination of the identity of each fluorescent particle. The combinations are based on particle fluorescence emission wavelength, fluorescence excitation wavelength, and particle count.
  • Compositions And Methods For Controllably Merging Emulsion Droplets And Sample Analysis

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20200158736, May 21, 2020
  • Filed:
    Nov 15, 2019
  • Appl. No.:
    16/685376
  • Inventors:
Christopher Gordon ATWOOD - San Diego CA, US
  • International Classification:
    G01N 33/58
    G01N 33/543
    G01N 21/21
  • Abstract:
The present disclosure in some aspects provides methods for the controlled merging of emulsion droplets, which can be used to assemble useful compositions such as droplets (e.g., stabilized micelles) containing a precise combination of analytes and/or analytical reagents. In some embodiments, disclosed herein is a method, e.g., for detecting the presence/absence, a level or amount, and/or an activity of an analyte in a sample, comprising merging two or more emulsion droplets such that an interaction between an analyte and an analyte-interacting reagent occurs in the merged droplet. The two or more emulsion droplets may be merged using a method for the controlled merging of emulsion droplets disclosed herein.
  • Methods And Systems For Analyzing A Sample With A Construct Comprising A Fluorescent Moiety And A Magnetic Moiety

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20170336403, Nov 23, 2017
  • Filed:
    Oct 16, 2015
  • Appl. No.:
    15/520055
  • Inventors:
Christopher Gordon ATWOOD - San Diego CA, US
  • International Classification:
    G01N 33/558
    G01N 21/64
    G01N 27/74
  • Abstract:
In one aspect, presence and/or level of an analyte within a sample is determined by use of a construct comprising a magnetic moiety and a fluorescent moiety. In one embodiment, the construct is magnetically migrated to a transparent surface and then dragged along the surface. In one aspect, an evanescent field is applied and changes in the diffusional or rotational properties of the fluorescent moiety as it migrates in and out of the evanescent field are measured by changes in its fluorescent emission, providing a measure of the interaction between the construct and a component of the sample.
