The present invention relates generally to methods and systems that enable organizations to make secure a wide array of electronic transactions such as business-to-business transactions over corporate extranets. One aspect of the present invention, allows companies to work through an extranet with existing and new business partners. The new business partners are directed to obtain certification from a certification authority, which takes corporate information from the business partners and verifies them. If the corporate information is verified against third party sources, a digital certificate is automatically issued.

The extranet host provides to a certification authority a shared secret and the names of the business partners that are authorized to access the corporate extranet. If the requestor's shared secret and name matches a digital certificate is automatically issued. The invention allows a business to issue secured socket layer (SSL), Object Signing, Client authorization and secure email certificates to internal employees as well as issuing client authentication certificates to business partners.

Abstract:

A system and method for determining behavioral similarity between users and user data to identify groups to share user impressions of ratable objects. A computerized rating system identifies a plurality of users of the network. The usage activities of users within the network is automatically monitored and compiled. By analyzing the compiled information, similarity among users is determined, and used to define a social group. An aggregate rating for each ratable computerized entity as a function of rating information received from each member of a social group is determined from recorded rating information. The computerized rating system presents on a display the aggregate rating information for a ratable computerized entity for a social group to a user who is a member of the social group.

A method for enabling customer service includes providing a first portion of a flow chart including a flow chart component corresponding to a first task and a flow chart component corresponding to a second task. The flow chart may correspond to a customer service process comprising several tasks. A list of steps corresponding to the first task depicted in the flow chart is also provided. User input indicating completion of the first task is then received. Responsive to receiving the user input, a second portion of the flow chart is provided including a flow chart component corresponding to the second task and a flow chart component corresponding to a third task. A method and apparatus for simultaneously training multiple trainees in the use of simulated weapons, which method defines a set of image shapes and assigns each image shape to a different simulated weapon capable of generating a light beam, at a selected wavelength, having the assigned image shape. By collecting data under control conditions and evaluating a set of parameters that uniquely identifies each image shape and by comparing the resulting "control parameters" to the same set of parameters evaluated under training conditions (thereby, producing "on-line parameters") each image shape produced during a training session is identified and associated with a simulated weapon. Abstract:

A redundant display uses row and column drivers to control an active matrix of transistors arranged in a pixel array. Row drivers arranged on respective sides of the pixel array control the voltage across entire rows of the pixel array in tandem. One or more sets of column drivers control the voltage across columns of the pixel array. One or more columns of switching elements are disposed between left and right portions of the pixel array. During normal operation, the column of switching elements connects left row portions with right row portions, such that an image is displayed across the entire pixel array. Responsive to a malfunction of row drivers on one side of the pixel array, the column of switching elements isolates the left row portions from the right row portions, such that the image may be displayed only on the other side of the pixel array.

Abstract:

An optical touch panel includes an emitter light guide that receives and traps light from a light source. The optical touch panel also includes a collector light guide. Responsive to pressure being applied to the emitter light guide in at least one location that corresponds to at least one location on a display positioned underneath the light guides, optical coupling occurs between the emitter light guide and the collector light guide. The optical coupling causes light trapped in the emitter light guide to escape and be collected by the collector light guide. At least one optical sensor detects the collected light and determines the location at which pressure is applied to the emitter light guide that corresponds to the location on the display based on the detected collected light. The optical sensor may also determine the force of the pressure applied.
