Abstract:

A method of managing access to a network resource is provided. An access query generated by a user requesting access to one of a group of resources is received. In response, a directory schema is used to determine the privileges assigned to the user for accessing the resource. The directory schema includes an association object associating user objects representing multiple users, a resource group object representing the group of resources, and privilege objects representing privileges of users for accessing each of the group of resources such that the association defines the privileges of various users for accessing the group of resources. Determining the user's privileges for accessing the resource includes using a first link between a resource object representing the resource and the resource group object and a second link between the resource group object and the association object identify the association object, and using the identified association object to determine the privileges assigned to the user for accessing the resource. The determined privileges of the user for accessing the resource are then communicated to the resource.

Abstract:

Information handling system access to a network product, such as a predetermined application, function or information, is controlled by a server administrator associated with the product and a privilege directory associated with the network. The privilege directory has plural association objects, each association object tied to one or more users or group of users and a single privilege. On receipt of a request from a user to access a product, the server administrator queries the privilege directory to determine all association objects tied to the requesting user and determines if a privilege to access the product is tied to an association object having the requesting user.

Abstract:

A system and method is disclosed for the dynamic load of protocol adapters in a client-server environment. In operation, the client and a coupled data server may have different communications protocols. At startup or run-time, the client accesses a protocol factory and retrieves a protocol adapter that is operable to convert communications between the protocol of the data server and the protocol of the client. The identification of the protocol adapter from the protocol factory is made by testing each protocol adapter on a serial basis to identify the first protocol adapter that is able to convert communications between the protocol of the data server and the protocol of the client.

Abstract:

An improved system and method is disclosed for transparent and agent-less remote access to CIMOMs and the management information they provide, regardless of the CIMOM communication protocol implemented. Differences between disparate CIM object manager (CIMOM) implementations are abstracted to provide clients a common interface when accessing information management data. A protocol layer is implemented that comprises protocol adapters that are dynamically loaded to handle communications with WBEM implementation. Target CIMOM protocols are discovered on-line by the protocol layer, which provides the appropriate interface to transparently convey management information from the CIMOM to the abstraction layer.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus for converting long file names to short file names having an eight character prefix and a three character extension. The long file name is examined and separated into a prefix portion and suffix/extension portion. The prefix and suffix portions of the file name are then converted to short file names using the following steps working from right to left: 1) remove lower case vowels; 2) remove lower case consonants; 3) remove upper case vowels; 4) remove upper case consonants; 5) remove single digit numbers; 6) and remove special characters. When the prefix and suffix have been reduced to the desired number of characters, the two portion are concatenated to form a shorten file name.
