Abstract:

A shunt trip assembly having a tripping solenoid and a locking solenoid selectively blocks movement of the tripping solenoid to prevent inappropriate tripping of a circuit breaker during shock loading thereof. The tripping solenoid includes a tripping plunger that is longitudinally translatable along a tripping path to operatively engage a trip button of the circuit breaker. The locking solenoid includes a locking plunger that is selectively translatable along a locking path to selectively block movement of the tripping plunger, the locking path being substantially perpendicular to the tripping path. A longitudinally-facing first abutment surface on the tripping plunger is engaged by the locking plunger to prevent inappropriate movement of the tripping plunger during shock loading. A peripherally-disposed second abutment surface on the tripping plunger prevents misconfiguration of the shunt trip assembly after the shunt trip assembly has been deenergized. The tripping solenoid and locking solenoid are simultaneously energized and deenergized.

Abstract:

A circuit interrupter with an accessory case socket into which an accessory bell alarm member is disposed. A two-piece lever arrangement is provided in the bell alarm accessory case between the micro-switch button thereof and the operating mechanism of the circuit breaker. In the first stage of operation the operating mechanism rotates the entire two-piece member as a unit until the bell alarm button has been completely depressed, after which overtravel of the operating mechanism is accommodated by rotational movement of only one of the members on a common axis against the force of a hub located torsion spring.

Abstract:

This concerns a molded case circuit breaker having separable main contacts and an operating mechanism utilized to cause the separable main contacts to open and close. A trip unit is provided to actuate the operating mechanism in desirable circumstances. Disposed within the circuit breaker casing is a region for the installation of an auxiliary device, such as a bell alarm device, shunt trip device etc. The case of the auxiliary device has an opening disposed therein through which a movable auxiliary device lever protrude. The opening of the circuit breaker case has a region for interfacing with the operating mechanism of the circuit breaker. A separate lever is disposed between the operating mechanism and the auxiliary device lever member. This separate lever member is driven by the operating mechanism of the circuit breaker and actuates the lever of the auxiliary device. It is pivoted about a protrusion on the auxiliary device.

Abstract:

A shock resistant under-voltage release mechanism for a circuit breaker includes a magnetic tripping device resiliently mounted onto a mounting bracket with one or more resilient mounts. The magnetic tripping device includes a plunger that selectively engages a trip button of the circuit breaker when the voltage supplied to a coil of the magnetic tripping device drops below a given preset limit voltage. The resilient mounts each include first and second flanges, with a hub extending between the first and second flanges. The resilient mount is mounted on the mounting bracket of the under-voltage release mechanism such that the hub is disposed against a mounting hole formed in the mounting bracket, and the first and second flanges are disposed against the opposite faces of the mounting bracket. A fastener is slidingly received through an opening formed in each resilient mount and is attached onto an attachment hole formed on a coil frame of the magnetic tripping device. The resilient mounts thus resiliently mount the magnetic tripping device onto the mounting bracket which is, in turn, mounted to substantially stationary structures within the circuit breaker.
