Abstract:

A metering system provides a measuring level with multiple meters and a collection level with multiple collectors. Each meter periodically measures a parameter, such as electricity consumption, and stores measurement information. Each meter periodically transmits its stored measurement information to a collector by a wireless signal. When a collector receives a transmission, it determines which meter sent the transmission, and then extracts unprocessed measurement information. The collector then processes the measurement information to generate a metered function, such as a load profile, a time-of-use profile, or a demand profile. The collector can compensate for missed transmissions and power failures. The metered functions for each meter are transmitted from the collectors to a monitoring station.

Abstract:

Utility usage data of a customer in numeric form provided by the utility meter data collection system in usage intervals of not less frequent than daily intervals is received, along with billing-related data of the customer. The received utility usage data of the customer is converted from numeric form to a graphical form that shows the total daily usage information for a calendar period that matches that for the printed utility bill of the customer. The graphical form is printed on the printed utility bill or on a paper suitable for use as an insert accompanying the printed utility bill to be mailed to the customer. In another embodiment, electricity usage data of the customer is received, along with electricity generation data regarding quantity and percentages of a utility's total electricity generation attributable to at least two the following electricity generation sources: Natural Gas-Baseload, Natural Gas-Peaking, Coal, Hydro, Nuclear, and Renewable. Information is derived regarding proportion of the customer's actual electricity usage attributable to the sources of electricity generation from the electricity generation data and the electricity usage data. Preferably, the carbon emissions attributable to the customer's actual electricity usage is calculated and presented to the customer.

An electrical power system having an electricity meter connected to power lines on one side and a load on the other side, the electricity meter having a processor and memory, a communications module, a sensor, and a service disconnect switch. The system has a communications and control system adapted to send information to the electricity meter and receive information from the electricity meter. Abstract:

A bicycle pedal crank bearing system has a hollow axle within which expandable cone shaped discs are flattened so as to expand radially outward and expand the axle into locking engagement with a thrust sleeve surrounding the axle. Since the thrust sleeve can not move axially relative to the bearing, the axle is likewise axially positioned, but is still free to rotate. The chain path is, thus, easily aligned and access to the bearings for maintenance is made easier.

Abstract:

An engagement mechanism is provided within the rear hub of a bicycle to allow drive sprockets attached to the rear hub to transmit drive motion from the crankset to the rear wheel. The assembly uses a pair of engaging face gears with saw tooth-shaped teeth to accomplish the torque transfer/freewheeling. While one gear is in a fixed axial position, the other is allowed to move axially along a helical spline. A light spring backs up this moveable gear to hold it against the other. When the moveable gear is rotated in one direction, the teeth having their faces parallel to the axis push against each other squarely, transferring the rotating motion from one to the other. Yet in the other direction of rotation, the faces of the teeth are askew to the axis forming ramps by which the fixed gear pushes the moveable gear away from it along the axis. This allows the teeth of the moveable gear to jump over the teeth of the fixed gear causing no rotating force to be transferred to the other and thus freewheeling. The helical spline acts like a screw thread; in the engaging direction of rotation, it pulls and clamps the movable gear to the fixed gear.
