Abstract:
An eddy current fan drive cooling system is operable in a vehicle having a sheave rotating at a speed related to an engine speed. A driving assembly of the cooling system is attached to the sheave. A plurality of poles are exposed around an outer perimeter of the driving assembly. A plurality of windings are wrapped around the poles. The windings are electrically connected to receive a driving signal to generate a magnetic field around the poles. A driven assembly carrying a cooling fan is provided around the driving assembly. The driven assembly includes a plurality of concentric rings arranged around the exposed poles of the driving assembly. An eddy current torque is produced in the rings in response to magnetic flux passing through the rings from the exposed poles due to the magnetic field around the poles.
A cooling system for a vehicle includes a shroud attachable to a fixed portion of the vehicle. A stator assembly for a brushless DC ring motor is attached to at least one mounting support of the shroud. A cooling fan is piloted on the stator assembly, and includes a ring supporting a plurality of fan blades for sweeping an area inside the shroud. A rotor assembly for the brushless DC ring motor is attached to the ring of the cooling fan. The rotor assembly confronts the stator assembly around an outer diameter of the stator assembly. The cooling system is controlled by an electronic controller to rotate the cooling fan to provide appropriate cooling for the vehicle.

Abstract:
A method of operating a cooling fan in a cooling system for a vehicle includes determining a required speed of the cooling fan. First and second signals are provided to a motor controller operatively connected to a motor having a rotatable portion connected to the cooling fan. The first signal coarsely controls a rotational speed of the motor by adjusting a voltage level provided to the motor and the second signal finely controls the rotational speed of the motor by pulse width modulation so that the cooling fan rotates at the required speed.
This invention is directed to a method of reducing the water demand of expanded perlite that includes obtaining a vibrating screen supported at an angle and placing expanded perlite on the vibrating screen. The expanded perlite is moved over the screen past toward a burner at a rate that heats the expanded perlite to a temperature sufficient to anneal it. The expanded perlite is then moved away from the burner and allowed to cool. Another embodiment of this invention is directed to a method of making a gypsum product. The method includes annealing perlite by the method described above, then preparing a slurry of calcium sulfate hemihydrate, additives, water and the annealed perlite. The slurry is formed into the shape of the gypsum product and allowed to set. This process is particularly useful in making gypsum panels and acoustical panels that benefit from the use of lightweight materials.
A cooling fan according to the present invention includes a housing. A fan assembly includes a plurality of fan blades carrying a rotor ring at the outer circumference of the fan assembly. A plurality of stator elements are supported by the housing to confront the rotor ring around only a portion of the outer circumference of the fan assembly. A motor controller is operatively connected to the stator elements to induce force on the rotor ring to turn the fan assembly.

Abstract:
A cooling system for a vehicle includes a cooling fan assembly having a cooling fan driven by a brushless DC ring motor, a control/communications system operatively connected to an engine control module (ECM) of the vehicle, a DC-to-DC converter operatively connected to a power source, and a commutation switching segment operatively connected to the DC-to-DC converter and to the control/communications system to provide signals for operating the brushless DC ring motor.
A Method For Producing Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Slurry Using A Multi-Stage Continuous Mixer
A method in which a stream of dry cementitious powder from a dry powder feeder passes through a dry cementitious powder inlet conduit to feed a first feed section of a fiber-slurry mixer. An aqueous medium stream passes through at least one aqueous medium stream conduit to feed a first mixing section the fiber-slurry mixer. A stream of reinforcing fibers passes from a fiber feeder through a reinforcing fibers stream conduit to feed a second mixing section of the fiber-slurry mixer. The stream of dry cementitious powder, aqueous medium stream, and stream of reinforcing fibers combine in the fiber-slurry mixer to make a stream of fiber-cement mixture which discharges through a discharge conduit at a downstream end of the mixer.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a method and apparatus for deterring pets or other animals from biting or chewing into medication containers. In some embodiments, the invention consists of two or more conductive metal sheets or strips in layers around the side of the container, which are wired to complete a circuit when pressed by the force of an animal's bite or touched by an animal's tongue. In some embodiments, the sheets or strips are spaced or held apart so that a normal human grip would not have sufficient force to complete the circuit. In some embodiments, the device slides onto the medication container with a friction fit, and is removable for use on future containers. In some embodiments, the circuit includes a battery-powered alarm to deter the animal. In other embodiments, the circuit delivers a mild electrical shock to the animal's mouth or tongue through the metal strips or sheets.
